PGL Wallachia 2024: Season 1. Group stage. Swiss System. Team score 2-1. The second match of the gaming day and a showdown of the favourite versus the underdog, a battle where everything seems pre-decided, but as this tournament shows, every day brings its own surprises. If you look at how the fourth game day is shaping up, there may very well be sensations in the fifth. Western Europe is set to compete against Southeast Asia. Gaimin Gladiators will face off against BOOM Esports.
This Western European team raised questions before the tournament owing to their lacklustre performance at ESL One Birmingham 2024, where they finished last in their group and subsequently did not make it to the playoffs. So, the anticipation before the tournament was somewhat lukewarm - it appeared the team won't achieve much and is more likely going to strive to make it into the playoffs only on the last day of the tournament. However, we now see a completely different scenario. Gaimin Gladiators beat Team Secret in their first tournament match, overpowered Team Spirit in their second match, making it seem as if the dominator of last season has returned, especially given their recent records. Nevertheless, it can't be denied that the opponents for the Western European team were not exactly top-tier, and the series with Team Falcons served as a reminder of this, as Gaimin Gladiators lost the playoffs slot match, dropping to the 2-1 teams. However, the draw has given them perhaps the weakest available opponent - BOOM Esports, hence the chances of making it to the playoffs are quite high.
A true sensation of this tournament is the presence of this South American team at 2-1. Interestingly, before the tournament, BOOM Esports were solidly in the top-2 in South America, while they have already become top-1 in this tournament. Yes, initially it was tough, as they lost 0-2 to Xtreme Gaming in their first tournament match, subsequently leading to a belief that BOOM Esports wouldn’t shine in this tournament. Moreover, they were expected to lose to Heroic - a team they have been losing to for the past three months, but they surprisingly emerged victorious, and quite convincingly at 2-0. After accomplishing this main mission, it seemed that their tournament journey was done. However, that wasn't the case. Their meeting with Team Secret took many by surprise. Although Western Europe was the clear favourite, the situation turned out to be much more complex, and BOOM Esports made it into the 2-1, which was a real sensation. Now, the team is a step away from stepping into the playoffs, but they are up against the serious opposition of Gaimin Gladiators.
Gaimin Gladiators and BOOM Esports have had two games against each other. Both of them ended in a draw.
It's quite clear here, Betscity sees the favourite of this match as Gaimin Gladiators, giving them odds of 1.25. On the other hand, BOOM Esports is given the odds of 3.90. My preferences lie with looking at the handicap of -1.5, which stands at 1.92. However, the past matches that ended in draws are concerning. Therefore, I suggest backing Gaimin Gladiators for the win, albeit at smaller odds.
