On Sunday, 21 April, within the scope of the 32nd tour of the Spanish Primera, "Getafe" will be hosting "Real Sociedad". At present, the visitors occupy the sixth position in the league table, outpacing "Valencia" by three points, whereas the hosts are tenth overall and are finishing the season for their enjoyment.
"Getafe" overall has had a very stable season and deserves commendation. Indeed, it was anticipated that the club from the outskirts of Madrid would end up in the lower half of the table fighting for survival, but the blues surprised external observers and even can dream about making it into the top ten. The hosts finished in 15th place in each of the previous three campaigns, so significant progress has been made this year. However, the team isn't presently contending for a place in the Europa League – there's no real drive to give it their all in the remaining rounds. Thus, "Azulones" have not known victory in the championship for two consecutive matches, suffering a home defeat against "Sevilla" (0:1) and drawing with "Rayo Vallecano" last weekend (0:0). It should be noted that Jose Bordalás' team performs confidently at home, scoring 28 points in 15 matches in front of their fans (the eighth-best indicator in the division).
However, fans cannot but be concerned that the Madrilenians have scored only one goal in their last four matches. Borja Mayoral (15 goals in the championship) has been sidelined until the end of the season due to injury, and with him in the infirmary are Duarte (defender) and Arambarri. On the other hand, important midfielder Alenya has returned after disqualification. Mason Greenwood (6 goals, 5 assists) is having an excellent campaign and will have to return to "Man United" at the end of his loan; however, for now, the Englishman is conducting "Getafe" attacks and is sure to take a place on the right flank of the attack. Jose Angel Carmona will remain on the bench after a poor performance in the last round, and Juanmi Latasa will appear in the centre of the attack.
"Real Sociedad" was knocked out of the 1/8 final of the Champions League by "PSG", who was distinguished by Mbappe, and left the Copa del Rey at the semi-final stage. Now the Basques have shifted their attention to the last goal of the season - to finish in the European competition zone of "Primera", which will provide the right to participate in the continental championship. At the moment, the white and blues occupy the 6th place and have not known defeat for four consecutive rounds. Last weekend, Imanol Alguacil's wards had to settle for a draw with the sinking "Almeria" (2:2), thanks to a double by Embarba, and before this draw, the Basques defeated "Granada" (2:3), "Cadiz" (2:0) and "Alaves" (0:1). It is important to note that "Sociedad" performs very well outside its home walls: it occupies the fourth line in the standings for the number of points earned on the road (26), scored 22 goals, conceded 16.
So, the visitors only lost twice in the last 10 matches on the opponent's territory in all competitions. For the trip to the outskirts of Madrid, central defender Zubeldia will be disqualified after being sent off in the match against "Almeria" last weekend, as will star forward Subimendi (4 goals, an excess of yellow cards). Munoz (left back, sidelined until the end of the season), midfielder Brais Mendes (regularly plays in midfield along with Subimendi and Merino), Carlos Fernandez, and Merkelans are still injured. On the other hand, captain Oyarzabal (9 goals in "La Liga"), Japanese star Kubo (7 goals, 3 assists), and talented youngster Barrenekchea (3 goals) are all back in the squad.
In September of last year, the white and blues won against "Getafe" with a score of 4:3 in the first round. However, in the two previous head-to-head matches in the Madrid suburb, the visitors didn't once come out on top.
"Real Sociedad" is vying for a spot in the European competition zone and has been in great shape in April, going unbeaten for four rounds in a row. "Getafe", on the contrary, is wrapping up the season without any tournament tasks and has delighted fans with only one victory in the last seven matches. Considering the absence of Mayoral and the current form of the capital's team, it is reasonable to back a Basques victory with a 0 handicap.
