On Saturday, 30th March, as part of the 30th round of the Spanish La Liga, Barcelona will host Las Palmas at home. The Catalans are currently in second place in the league table, eight points behind the leading Real Madrid, whilst the Islanders are situated at the 11th position, with 37 points.
Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Kounde, I Martinez, Cubarsi, Cancelo; Fermin, Gundogan, Roberto; Raphinha, Lewandowski, Felix.
Las Palmas: Valles; A Suarez, Coco, Marmol, S Cardona; El Haddadi, Munoz, Perrone, K Rodriguez, Moleiro; Sandro.
The match will take place in Barcelona at the Olympic Stadium.
Barcelona, the current champion of Spain, is likely to surrender its crown to Real Madrid: before the start of the 30th round, the hosts are eight points behind Los Blancos. The quarterfinals of the Champions League against PSG is on the horizon for the Blaugranes, and the coaching staff may aim to triumph in the main continental championship by the end of the season. However, the splendid game against Atletico before the break (a 0:3 victory) allows supporters to dream about reducing the gap in the Liga, especially since the Catalans have an unbeaten run in all competitions - 10 matches, with eight victories.
In general, Xavi's charges have gathered 34 points in 15 matches on their temporary Olympic Stadium, but all three championship defeats happened in front of their own fans... The trio of midfielders (Pedri, De Jong, Gavi), as well as left-back Balde (likely out for the rest of the season), remain in the infirmary.
Las Palmas has spent most of the season in the top ten, but as the championship approaches its end, it began to lose pace. Having dropped to the 11th place in total, the Islanders are still suffering from a bitter defeat by Almeria before the international break, before which the rival hadn't won a single match in the Liga (0:1).
Lastly, the "Canaries" have been without a victory in the championship for five rounds in a row, including three losses - from Almeria, Athletic Bilbao (0:2) and Atletico Madrid (5:0) a few weeks ago. Overall, Las Palmas hasn't placed in La Liga above the 11th position since it became sixth in 1979, although the yellow-blues can boast quality results on the road this campaign: 15 earned points in 14 away matches (the 11th in the division).
Last season, the "Canaries" lost heavily to "Barcelona" at Camp Nou with a score of 3:0, and in January, in the first round, they lost to the reigning champions at their home turf (1:2).
Barcelona intends to take all three points at home and reduce the lead of Real Madrid to a five points margin, who will play on Sunday evening against a strong Athletic Bilbao. Las Palmas has slowed down due to the lack of tournament motivation towards the end of the season and has been without a victory in the league for five rounds in a row, including three defeats. Considering the latest results of the Catalans, it is reasonable to bet on their triumph with a handicap of -1.5.
After the announcement of Xavi's departure from the coaching bridge, Barça showed their best side and scored six goals in the last two meetings. Robert Lewandowski has also hit great form, so it makes sense to bet on the Pole's goal on Saturday evening.
Barcelona significantly outclasses its rival and will hold the initiative throughout the entire match - we put on the victory of the Catalans on the corners with a handicap of -2.5.
Las Palmas will have to foul a lot, otherwise there will be few chances to withstand the reactive attack of the opponent. I expect a yellow card victory from the underdog.
I'll bet on an exact score of 3:0 in favour of Barcelona.
