By names alone, the New York Liberty is the most star-studded team in the WNBA. However, the club has yet to clinch its first championship title.

A shootout with the Phoenix Mercury (99:93) temporarily halted New York's winning run, but the team bounced back with three double-digit victories. The winning streak was interrupted in the Commissioner's Cup final against the Minnesota Lynx (89:94). 

Atlanta Dream

In last year's regular season, Atlanta secured sixth place but was knocked out in the first round by the Dallas Wings over two games.

This season, the team started with two victories against the Los Angeles Sparks (81:92) and Dallas Wings (83:78), followed by two losses to the Phoenix Mercury (88:85) and Minnesota Lynx (79:92).

The club's most stable period included two wins in late May and early June, but the team then lost five consecutive games to the Connecticut Sun (50:69), New York Liberty (61:78), Washington Mystics (68:87), and Indiana Fever (91:84). Their only win in the first half of June was against the Chicago Sky (80:89).

In the last two games before this matchup, Atlanta was defeated by the Minnesota Lynx (68:55) but surprisingly beat the Connecticut Sun (74:78).
