On Saturday, the 4th of May, within the framework of the 34th round of the Spanish La Liga, Real Madrid will host Cadiz. Should Los Blancos triumph over the relegation threatened "Pirates", they could secure the championship title, if a few hours later Barcelona fails to win against Girona.
Real Madrid: Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Nacho, F Garcia; Camavinga, Modric; Guler, Brahim, Ceballos; Joselu.
Cadiz: Ledesma; Ousou, Fali, Chust, J Hernandez; Carcelen, Alcaraz, Alex, Navarro; Ramos, Juanmi.
The battle will take place in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Real Madrid took a significant step towards their 36th national championship title, with a victory over Barcelona in the Clásico at the Bernabéu (3:2) two weeks ago. Further, last weekend, the Meringues managed a minimal victory over Real Sociedad (0:1), thereby maintaining an 11-point lead over the Catalan grandee in the league table. If Los Blancos win on Saturday night, and a few hours later Xavi's charges stumble against Girona, the "Royals" might officially become the champions this weekend.
Last week, Carlo Ancelotti's side travelled to Munich for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern; despite a less than impressive performance, they managed to hold on for a 2:2 draw. Vinicius gave Madrid an early lead in the first half, but the opponent overturned the match through Sane and Kane's efforts; a converted penalty by Vinicius late in the game ensured parity. Likely, no one will be surprised by the fact that the home side have the best attack statistics in La Liga (71 goals scored) and top defensive records (only 22 conceded).
Cadiz, however, is not contemplating any title, but rather striving to maintain their status in the elite division. The "Pirate Ship" that has been struggling all season occupies the 18th position in the league table, falling behind "Celta" above by just five points. Naturally, the match against Real Madrid comes at a highly inconvenient moment for the Andalusians, who can't afford to make mistakes following a 1:1 draw against Mallorca last weekend and two defeats against the league's top-three teams: Girona (4:1) and Barcelona (0:1).
Moreover, the guests managed to secure maximum points in only four out of 33 La Liga matches this season, beholding fewer victories (one) than bottom-dwelling Almeria. Furthermore, Cadiz has gained only 6 points in 16 away matches (second-lowest in the division), with 8 goals scored and 27 conceded.
In the first leg, Cadiz was crushed at home (0:3) due to a phenomenal performance by Rodrigo (2 goals, 1 assist on Bellingham's goal). However, Madrid has managed to win only once in the last three home encounters.
Possibly, Real might secure the championship title this Saturday, if Barcelona stumble at Girona. And even accounting for some changes in the starting line-up ahead of the second leg Champions League semi-final against Bayern on Wednesday evening, Madrid shouldn't encounter many issues against the league's underdog. Cadiz is enduring a complete ruin and hasn't won any away game in the current campaign. I anticipate an exciting game from the "Royal Club" and bet on Real Madrid with a -1 handicap.
Despite the clear class disparity, we should not expect a goal fest at the Bernabéu: Madrid will conserve energy for the second leg and likely settle for a couple of goals. I'm betting on the total under 3.5.
The hosts will significantly outclass their opponent and will start methodically breaking down the 'Pirates' defence through the wings from the first minutes. My prediction is for the hosts' number of corners to exceed 5.5.
Cadiz will be compelled to play a lot of defence, breaking up the pace of the match with frequent fouls, therefore I bet on Cadiz to win the yellow cards count.
I'd wager on an exact score: 2:0 in favour of Real Madrid.
