On Saturday, 20th April, as part of the 32nd round of the Spanish La Liga, Celta will host Las Palmas on their home soil. The hosts currently sit 17th in the league standings, just three points clear of the relegation zone, while "the Islanders" are settled in 12th place, finishing off the season without any particular tasks.
Celta: Guaita; Manquillo, Jailson, Dominguez; Mingueza, Beltran, Sotelo, Alvarez; Aspas, Larsen, Bamba.
Las Palmas: Valles; A Suarez, Lemos, Marmol, S Cardona; Munir, Munoz, Perrone, K Rodriguez, Moleiro; Sandro.
The match will take place in Vigo at the Estadio de Balaídos.
Just like in the previous season, Celta will fight until the last round to retain its elite ticket. The 17th spot in the table and just three points separating them from Cadiz won't please fans of the Celts. Last weekend, the Sky Blues surrendered to Betis (losing 2:1), even though before that they celebrated a victory over Sevilla (1:2) and drew a goalless match with Rayo Vallecano (0:0), a straight competitor in the fight for La Liga survival.
Next month, the team will have to play several tough matches: against Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, so they desperately need to accumulate points over the next weekends. It's important to note that the hosts have been having difficulties at home this season, gaining only 14 points in 15 matches in front of their fans.Celta has been playing in La Liga since 2012, with the three previous campaigns seeing them finish 8th, 11th, and 13th.
Having gained promotion to the top division alongside Alavés and Granada last summer, Las Palmas has had a more successful campaign than its peers. Despite a series of recent defeats, the Islanders should soon officially secure their stay in La Liga for at least another year: Garcia Pimienta's brilliance has kept the side 12 points clear of the danger zone.
Last weekend, the Canaries suffered a fourth consecutive defeat in La Liga against Sevilla (0:2), and before that, they suffered losses to Athletic Bilbao (0:2), Almeria (0:1) and Barcelona (1:0). All these losses unfolded without Yellow-Blue finding the back of the net. Adding to their woes, Las Palmas is currently on a seven-game winless run in the league (5 defeats, 2 draws). When it comes to away games, Las Palmas only ranks 13th in terms of points gained (15 in 15 matches, 12 goals scored, 20 conceded).
In the first leg, Las Palmas clinched victory in the dying minutes of the match (scoring in the 84th and 97th minutes).
It seems that Las Palmas has lost its competitive motivation for the remaining matches: the Canaries have suffered 4 losses in a row and are seeing out the season at their leisure. Conversely, Celta, embroiled in a survival fight, cannot afford to falter - the Galicians are just three points ahead of Cadiz, with a tough schedule ahead. I believe, with the support of their home crowd, the club from Vigo will triumph this Saturday.
Las Palmas hasn't scored a single goal in their last four rounds, and generally, they manage to net less than a goal per away game in the season. Thus, I'm placing a bet on the individual total under 1 goal for the visitors.
Boosted by their home crowd, Celta will likely attack more actively and possess the ball more, hence, I'm betting on a victory for the Sky-Blues in terms of corners.
Both teams aren't known for their excessively rough play this season (averaging 2 yellow cards per match). I'm betting on the total under 4.5 bookings for the match.
I'm placing my bet on a 1:0 exact score in favour of Celta.
