On Friday, 21 June there will be a Volleyball Nations League match between the national teams of Canada and Brazil.
The Canadians continue to pleasantly surprise and have finally broken their traffic light pattern in the statistics. In the previous round, they faced Germany and swept them (3-0). Although I expected worthy competition from the Germans, Canada today was truly a level above their opponent. The team is currently in fifth place in the standings, securing a spot in the play-offs.
The Brazilians have recently shown excellent form, closing out the Netherlands (3-1) and a strong Poland team (3-1). However, they lost to the Americans (2-3), who are currently not at their peak. The key is to ensure that this unfortunate loss doesn’t demoralise the Brazilians, as they still have every chance of advancing to the next stage.
Since 2019, the teams have faced each other four times. Brazil has won all the matches convincingly (3-0, 3-1, 3-0, 3-0).
The Canadians have adapted as the tournament progressed and have evidently hit their stride. Therefore, I would not discount them in this encounter (they are capable of causing upsets). I believe they can easily take a set from the Brazilians, so I will go with a Handicap1 by sets (+2.5) at 1.44.
