Lube Civitanova and Trentino will compete in the return match of the Champions League in volleyball.
Lube Civitanova, a team with a confident performance in the Champions League group stage and fourth place in the Italian Superlega, has faced serious challenges on the path to the final both in the national championship and in European competitions. In the semi-finals of the Champions League, the team fell to Trentino without much of a chance, with a score of 1-3, putting them on the brink of elimination from the tournament.
In the quarterfinals of the Italian Superlega, Lube Civitanova also found themselves in a tight spot, losing to Monza in the first two matches of the series with a score of 1:3. Only in the third match, held at home, Lube was able to turn the tide of confrontation, winning with a score of 3:2 after intense struggle, proving their tenacity and ability to fight to the end.
In the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Lube Civitanova showcased their strength, confidently overcoming Turkish Halkbank with two victories scoring 3:1 in each match. In the group stage, the team also did an impressive job, taking first place with 5 wins and 1 loss, beating teams such as Prague, Noliko, and Galati. Succes in the group stage, with a bright winning streak, confirmed Lube Civitanova's status as one of the strongest teams in Europe, but ahead of the return match of the Champions League semi-finals, Lube Civitanova finds themselves in a difficult situation.
The volleyball club Trentino, a bright representative of the Italian Superlega and international tournaments, continues to reaffirm its status as a favourite at all levels of competition. The team completed the regular season of the Superlega in first place with impressive results - 19 victories and only 3 defeats. Trentino particularly shined in the last games before the playoffs, including a confident victory in the quarterfinals of the local league against Modena, winning a 3:0 series.
In the Champions League, Trentino also delivers outstanding results. In the group stage, the team bagged five wins out of six possible matches, losing only in one duel with Jacek's team, where the second line-up was fielded. This outcome did not knock them from their leading positions, but rather confirmed Trentino's readiness to overcome serious challenges. In the quarterfinals of the Champions League, Trentino met Berlin and won confidently, leaving the opponent no chances, winning 6:0 sets in total.
The first match of the Champions League semi-finals against Lube Civitanova was a display of Trentino's power and skill, where they secured a victory with a score of 3:1. In two out of three sets, Trentino crushed the opponent with scores 25:17 and 25:18, asserting its superiority.
In the last five encounters between Trentino and Lube Civitanova, Trentino won four victories, confirming their dominance in these clashes. Starting from the last match on 13th March in the semi-finals with a 3:1 victory, in the Superlega match on February 14th Trentino beat Lube Civitanova with a score of 3:1. This victory continued Trentino's streak of successful games against their rival, except for one match held on 12th May 2023, when Lube Civitanova was able to retaliate, winning with a score of 3:1.
However, in other meetings, Trentino demonstrated its dominance, securing convincing victories on 3rd December 2023 (3:0), 17th May 2023 (3:0) and 7th May 2023 (3:0), affirming their status as one of the strongest teams in the league.
The hosts face substantial problems on all fronts and run the risk of exiting all tournaments in the coming days. I'll place my bets on the more confident Trentino team.
