In the second round of the US Open, hard court, Australia's Rinky Hijikata will take on Hungary's Marton Fucsovics. We are placing a bet on a total over.
22-year-old Rinky holds the 110th position in the world rankings. He achieved his first victory of the tournament against Kotov, with a score of 7:5, 5:7, 6:3, 7:5. Hijikata previously competed in Winston-Salem, where he obtained a victory over Marchenko with a score of 4:6, 6:3, 6:2. However, he later fell to Coric, securing a score of 2:6, 6:7 (2:7). In the Cincinnati tournament, he was unable to pass the qualification and lost to Lajovic. Meanwhile, in the Cary Challenger, he reached the quarter-finals, defeating Shimabukuro and Richard before losing to Walton. At the Los Cabos tournament, he lost to Isner in the first round.
At the two previous tournaments in Newport and Ilkley, and at the Wimbledon qualifier, Rinky secured only one victory. In June, he presented a commendable performance in the 's-Hertogenbosch tournament, making it to the semi-finals. There, he defeated Brouwer achieving a score of 6:7 (5:7), 6:3, 6:2, Huesler 2:6, 7:5, 6:3, and McDonald 5:7, 6:3, 6:1, but later fell to Thompson with a score of 6:7 (5:7), 3:6. Before this tournament, Rinky did well against Haase, scoring 6:3, 7:5 in the qualification matches, but eventually lost to Berankis, scoring only 4:6, 4:6.
Among Hijikata's successful performances this season, his extraordinary achievement in the Bern Challenger, held on a hard court, is noteworthy. In early February, he managed to beat Takahashi, Ellis, McCabe, Shimizu, and Duckworth. At other tournaments, he typically reached the third round at most. In late April, during the Seoul Challenger, Rinky reached the quarter-finals, defeating Shimabukuro and Donskoy, but later fell to Chun. At the beginning of May, in Gwangju, Hijikata, unfortunately, fell to Thompson in the quarter-finals after previously beating Diallo and Tu.
31-year-old Marton Fucsovics, ranked 57th in the world, accomplished his first tournament victory against Korda, scoring 7:6 (7:4), 4:6, 7:6 (7:1), 4:6, 6:4. He was able to win a match against Zhang with a score of 6:4, 6:2, in Winston-Salem prior to it, but was later defeated by Korda, securing 6:7 (5:7), 3:6. Earlier, he failed to qualify for the Cincinnati tournament, losing to Shevchenko, scoring only 5:7, 4:6.
In late July, Fucsovics participated in the Segovia Challenger, where he reached the quarter-finals. He overcame Girtz 6:3, 6:2, and Mejia 6:3, 2:6, 6:1, but was later beaten by Atman 3:6, 6:7 (10:12). At Wimbledon, he successively defeated Griekspoor 6:4, 6:2, 6:4, Hiron 7:6 (7:2), 6:3, 4:6, 6:4, but suffered a loss to Medvedev 6:4, 3:6, 4:6, 4:6. Earlier, in Stuttgart, he made it to the semi-finals by outscoring Shapovalov 3:6, 6:3, 6:4, Wu Yibing 6:4, 4:6, 6:4, Fritz 6:4, 7:5 but later succumbed to Tiafoe 3:6, 6:7 (11:13). He then won the qualifying match for the tournament by defeating Vessels 6:3, 6:1, and Celikbilek 6:4, 6:4. Marton participated in the French Open in May, where he first defeated Grenier 6:3, 5:7, 6:1, 6:3 in the opening round but later lost to Djokovic 6:7 (2:7), 0:6, 3:6.
Apart from the Indian Wells Championship, where he reached the final 1/8, Fucsovics did not achieve more than two victories in any of the other tournaments this season. He beat Wolf, De Minaur, and Molcan, but later lost to Fritz. At the start of the season, Marton won the Canberra Challenger on hard court.
The athletes have not played against each other before.
Despite his victory over Korda, Fucsovics is having an inconsistent season, with only four victories in his last seven matches on this surface. Conversely, Hijikata overturned Kotov and is expected to put up a challenge against Marton. The bet is placed on a total over.
