In the first round of the US Open hard court, Sebastian Ofner from Austria will go up against Nuno Borges from Portugal. We're putting our money on Ofner's victory.
27-year-old Sebastian Ofner, currently ranked 59th in the world tennis rankings, approaches the championship on the back of a four-match losing streak. Additionally, at the end of June, Ofner reached the Challenger final in Ilkley where he claimed victories over Lokoli 6:3, 6:2, Virtanen 6:4, 1:6, 6:4, Kudla 6:2, 6:2, and Pirosh 6:3, 6:0, but finally succumbed to Kubler with a score of 4:6, 4:6. As part of the French Open championship in May, Ofner showed excellent form, successfully passing the qualification and reaching the 1/8 finals of the main draw. He managed to defeat Maxime Cressy 6:4, 7:6, 6:2, Korda 6:3, 7:6, 6:4, and Fabio Fognini 5:7, 6:3, 7:5, 1:6, 6:4, but then lost to Tsitsipas with a score of 5:7, 3:6, 0:6.
Also, in this season, Ofner showed good results at the Mauthausen tournament in mid-May, where he reached the semi-finals beating Vessels, Wenger, and Gaston, before ultimately losing to Misolich. At the other Challengers in Prague, Zadar, Antalya, and Tenerife he also reached the semi-finals. Overall, Ofner showed consistent and high-quality performance this season.
79th in world rankings, 26-year-old Nuno approaches the US Open with a streak of six defeats. He has lost in the first rounds: in Winston-Salem - to Draper 3:6, 1:6, at Wimbledon - to Cerundolo 7:5, 3:6, 3:6, 4:6, in Eastbourne - to Baes 3:6, 4:6, at Ilkley Challenger - to Tirante 6:4, 3:6, 4:6, and was unsuccessful in qualifying for the Cincinnati tournament, succumbing to Galan with a score of 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 5:7.
In mid-June at the Nottingham Challenger, Borges made it to the semi-finals, beating Chon, Yunchaokete, and Shimabukuro, but then lost to Marre. Successful performances this season include the Phoenix and Monterrey Challengers where Nuno Borges won the titles. Over the course of these tournaments, the tennis player managed to beat Shevchenko, Struff, Popyrin, Safiullin, Schwartzman, Gojo, Krueger, Altmaier, Zhu, and Klahn. In the remaining tournaments this season, the tennis player has not won more than one match.
The athletes have not previously played against each other.
Despite Sebastian's recent defeats, he has had a more consistent season and excels in class compared to his opponent. I predict Ofner will come out victorious in the upcoming match, and I place my bet on him.
