In the first round of the US Open on hard court, Jeffrey John Wolf from the USA will face Zhizhen Zhang from China. We're placing a bet on Wolf's win with a game handicap of -3.
24-year-old Jeffrey Wolf, who stands at the 45th spot in the global ranking, approaches the tournament with a string of three losses. In Cincinnati and Toronto, the tennis player lost in the first rounds to De Minaur, with scores 0:6, 6:3, 1:6 and to Davidovich Fokina, with scores 0:6, 2:6.
In early August, Jeffrey participated in the Washington tournament from the second round, clinching victories over Albot with scores 6:1, 6:3 and Mmoh 6:4, 7:6 (7:5). However, he subsequently lost to Griekspoor 5:7, 4:6. In previous Atlanta performances, the tennis player managed to break through to the semi-finals, defeating Zhang with scores 6:2, 6:1, Kressy with scores 7:6 (9:7), 6:3, and Koepfer with 6:2, 6:3, but suffered a semi-final defeat to Fritz with scores 3:6, 5:7. At Wimbledon, Wolf claimed victory over Coco in the initial round with scores 7:5, 6:3, 7:6 (7:4), but in the next match, he fell to Bublik with scores 3:6, 6:7 (5:7), 0:6. He also made it to the quarterfinals in Eastbourne, where he bested Etcheverry and Van de Zandschulp, but then lost to Paul.
It's also worth noting Wolf's successful performance in Dallas in mid-February, where he reached the semi-finals, earning victories over Holt, Albot, and Tiafoe, before succumbing to Isner. At the Australian Open, he also racked up three wins over Thompson, Schwartzman, and Mmoh, but then suffered defeat at the hands of Shelton. In the rest of this season's tournaments, Jeffrey John did not clinch more than two wins.
26-year-old Zhang, occupying the 67th spot in the world ranking, previously participated in the Winston-Salem tournament, where he coped with Ivashka 4:6, 7:6 (9:7), 6:2, but then lost to Fucsovics 4:6, 2:6. Before this, Zhizhen failed to qualify for the tournament. He clinched a victory over Kresse with scores 6:7 (4:7), 6:3, 7:6 (13:11), but then lost to Pospisil with scores 3:6, 3:6. Earlier in Toronto, Zhang was forced to leave the tournament after the first match, suffering a defeat at the hands of Kokkinakis with scores 5:7, 4:6. Earlier in Kitzbühel, he also participated in the competitions, taking a convincing win over Lajovic with scores 6:3, 6:2, however, in the next match he fell to Thiem with scores 6:1, 3:6, 2:6.
In July, the athlete participated in the Hamburg tournament, making it to the semi-finals. As part of this competition, he defeated Choinski, Hanfmann, and Altmaier, but lost to Djere in the finale. Earlier at the Gstaad and Wimbledon tournaments, Zhang failed to get past the starting rounds, suffering losses against Medvedev with scores 6:4, 1:6, 4:6 and Van de Zandschulp with scores 6:2, 6:7 (3:7), 6:7 (6:8), 6:3, 2:6 respectively.
In late June at the Eastbourne tournament, Zhang showed good results, making it to the quarter-finals. As part of this competition, he defeated Sonego and Kressy, but fell to Cerundolo. At the French Open in early June, Zhang progressed to the third round. During this tournament, he overcame Lajovic and Tirante but then lost to Ruud. He also demonstrated encouraging results at the May tournament in Madrid, reaching the quarter-finals. At this competition, he defeated Rodionov, Shapovalov, Norrie, and Fritz but fell to Karatsev in the quarterfinals. In the rest of this season's tournaments, Zhang did not clinch more than two wins.
The athletes met previously in 2022 in the quarter-finals of the Tallahassee Challenger on clay, with the match concluding in Zhang's victory with scores 6:3, 3:6, 7:6 (7:2).
Wolf demonstrates more stable play on hard court and overall surpasses his adversary in game class. Considering this, I believe that he will secure a victory in the upcoming match.
