The Russian Premier League Cup schedule of the 9th of August will conclude with another match in Moscow. The footballers who clashed during the 2023-2024 season will take the field at the VTB Arena. For the second time in a month, Dynamo Moscow will be playing at home against Krasnodar.
In the off-season, Dynamo saw a change at the helm with Marcel Lichka, former manager of Orenburg and Dynamo Brest, taking charge. The Czech specialist wasn't able to kick things off with an immediate success, as the sky-blues claimed only one victory in the 2023-2024 season – an accomplishment they achieved in Saint Petersburg. Dynamo fell short against Krasnodar at their home ground, suffered a loss away to Pari NN, and failed to maintain a winning score in Samara. In their match against Zenit, many Dynamo players gave career-best performances, most notably Konstantin Tyukavin who usually plays second fiddle to Arsen Zakharyin. Tyukavin became the star of the show against Zenit and definitely caught the eye with two goals against the reigning champions of Russia.
Krasnodar got off to a strong start for the 2023-2024 season, only trailing behind the Moscow-based club Spartak. Krasnodar managed to bag victory in all three World-RPL matches in the new season and only lost in the RPL Cup trail against Spartak with a 2:1 scoreline. Krasnodar got off to a solid start in the World-RPL, confidently winning an away game against Dynamo Moscow, followed by three points each in games against Sochi and Pari NN. The match with geographic neighbours evolved into a fierce game, in which converting chances was the decisive factor. The last league match saw Krasnodar trying to break through Nizhny Novgorod's "parked bus", masterfully steered by Sergei Yuran. Krasnodar might not have managed to score from the field, but an earned penalty in the first half sealed the match outcome.
In head-to-head meetings between Krasnodar and Dynamo, neither side dominates. Both the white and blues and the bulls hold eight victories each, with another seven matches ending all square.
The victory will be seized by Krasnodar. The hosts exerted a lot of energy and emotions in the match in Saint Petersburg and might not be able to recover. Krasnodar, on the other hand, are leading the standings and have already bested Dynamo in the first round of the World-RPL.
