Lazio - Sassuolo predictions and free betting tips [26/05/2024]

On Sunday, 26 May, in the 38th round of the Italian Serie A, Lazio will host Sassuolo. Igor Tudor's men cannot climb higher than seventh and have secured a place in the Europa League, while the Neroverdi have lost all chances of staying in the elite division.

After a routine 2-0 victory over modest Empoli, the Eagles managed to pick up a point against Inter last weekend (1-1).

Despite having no tournament motivation, the hosts have a chance to achieve six consecutive wins at the Olimpico for the first time in many years. Interestingly, in terms of points accumulated at home, Lazio ranks only eighth overall (33 points in 18 matches, 22 goals scored, 13 conceded). 

Sassuolo

Having competed in the top-flight since 2013, Sassuolo faced a debacle in this campaign and will play in Serie B next season. With one round left, the visitors are in 19th place in the Serie A table, five points behind the save 17th place. After going six matches without a win (3 draws and 3 losses), the Neroverdi surprised everyone a few weeks ago by beating Inter 1-0.

Since then, Sassuolo have consecutively lost to Genoa (2-1) and Cagliari last weekend (0-2), with goals from Prati and Lapadula sealing their fate. The last 12 away fixtures earned them just two points – 2-2 draws against Udinese and Salernitana, so it's no surprise given their form. Moreover, Davide Ballardini's side have conceded 74 goals over 37 rounds – the second-worst record in the division after crisis-stricken Salernitana.

The first-round meeting ended in an away win for Lazio with a score of 2-0. Moreover, the capital club has won the last four head-to-head encounters.

Prediction for Lazio vs Sassuolo

Despite having no tournament motivation in the final round, Igor Tudor’s men can secure their sixth consecutive home win and finish the difficult campaign on a high note. Sassuolo have completely fallen apart in recent weeks and will deservedly be relegated to Serie B. I don’t see how the Neroverdi can take any points away from Rome. My forecast is a triumph for the Eagles with a -1 handicap.

Sassuolo concede more than two goals per game this season and struggle massively in defence. Confidently bet on Lazio's individual total over 1.5 goals.
