On Friday, 7 June, a friendly football match will take place between the national teams of England and Iceland.
In their last friendly match, the English team secured a victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina (3-0). The first half was somewhat lacklustre, but in the second half, when Kane and Grealish came on, dangerous opportunities started to materialise. Yes, Kane hasn’t yet fully recovered his form after the injury, but he still managed to score a crucial goal. Trent Alexander-Arnold consistently joined the attacks and scored a stunning volley in the closing stages (in my opinion, the clear man of the match).
The Vikings failed to qualify for the Euros, conceding their spot to Ukraine. In recent friendly matches, they defeated Honduras (2-0) and Guatemala (1-0). Iceland is not in their prime, and their current squad appears notably weak to stand against England.
Since 2020, the teams have faced each other twice, with England winning on both occasions (4-0, 1-0).
This is England’s final friendly match before the Euros, presenting the last opportunity for Southgate to experiment with the squad. Any mistakes here could be costly later on. I believe the hosts will secure a comprehensive victory at Wembley, similar to their match against Bosnia. Thus, I would opt for a clean sheet win for England or both teams to score – no.
