Continental Hockey League regular championship 2023/2024. The opening match of the tournament's game day and the second in two days between these teams. "Amur" in Khabarovsk will host "Traktor" from Chelyabinsk and once again hinder the visitors from ensuring their playoff spot.
Khabarovsk's club truly deserves commendation. Seemingly lost to the playoffs, they suffered nine defeats in a row. Everyone believed "Amur" to be doomed, but then a victory over "Metallurg" occurred, and everything turned around. In their last six games, Khabarovsk has won five and picked up points in all six. As of writing this prediction, "Amur" is in the playoff zone, and despite possible position changes by the end of the day, they will hold a playoff spot, even if "Neftekhimik" currently isn't far behind.
At the moment, "Amur" holds the eighth place in the league table, having gathered 64 points after 62 matches. The points were acquired through 20 regular-time wins, six overtime wins and 12 one-point losses. The remaining 24 matches, "Amur" lost without any additional points. The club from Khabarovsk ranks fourth from the bottom in goals with 144. As for conceded goals, the situation is even better, ranking fifth from the bottom with 163 let in.
On the contrary to "Amur's" winning streak, "Traktor" is on a decline, suffering four consecutive losses. Fortunately, in the last match, less than 24 hours ago, "Traktor" managed to score more than one goal after failing to do so in four previous games. Yet, the three goals provided by the team from Chelyabinsk weren't enough for a victory.
It is of particular interest what the head coach, Aleksei Zavarukhin, will strategise for the second match in two days when fatigue and acclimatisation start kicking in. Currently, "Traktor" ranks sixth in the conference. After 62 matches, it accrued 72 points from 25 regular-time wins, eight overtime wins and six one-point losses. In the remaining 23 matches, "Traktor" were defeated without any additional points. The team from Chelyabinsk dropped to fourth place in conceded goals with 150 but also ranks fourth in goals scored with 167.
"Amur" Khabarovsk and "Traktor" Chelyabinsk have played 40 matches against each other. Out of these, the Khabarovsk team won 14, while Chelyabinsk's team won 26. This season, "Amur" proved stronger twice with scores of 3:2 and 5:3.
Despite the odds, I would advise you to back "Amur", given the current form of both teams.
However, I would like to take a precaution here. I fear "Amur" may not secure a victory in regular time, so my proposal here would be to go for ITO1 (2.5) at 2.18. It's well within Khabarovsk's ability to score three goals against the team from Chelyabinsk.
