We're on the lookout for an advantageous bet on one of the ATP 250 Stuttgart quarter-finals. Lorenzo Musetti continues to play like an up-and-coming tennis star, yet it's high time he transitions to a higher level, especially considering his talent and potential for grand achievements. Currently, Musetti will attempt to surpass Alexander Bublik in the 3rd round of the ATP 250 in Stuttgart. Bublik, skilled on grass courts, is a strong contender for the title in Germany, hence Musetti must be well-prepared for this opponent.
Once primarily a clay court player, Lorenzo has since improved on various ‘soft’ surfaces and now his technique is adapted for both hard and grass courts. The key, however, remains Musetti's overall readiness for any specific tournament.
In 2022, the Italian won two main titles and aimed for a solid start to 2023. Unfortunately, last season didn’t quite go as planned for Musetti, despite some local successes. He failed to secure major trophies, which left him somewhat dissatisfied.
This year has been even tougher for Musetti. On clay courts, he found himself competing in Challengers, reaching two finals: he lost to Mariano Navone in Cagliari and to fellow countryman Francesco Passaro in Turin. Subsequently, at Roland Garros, Lorenzo performed admirably and almost triumphed over Novak Djokovic in the 3rd round, but the Serbian ultimately won after an intense five-set battle.
In Stuttgart, grass matches have been challenging for Musetti. The 1st round saw a serving contest against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Despite 21 aces from the Frenchman and saving 7 match points in the 2nd set, Musetti emerged victorious. Against Dominik Koepfer, the dynamics shifted as the German crafted better plays and defended well, yet Musetti's precision and reliability proved decisive in the 3rd set.
Against Alexander Bublik, Musetti has to improve his return game to prevent the Kazakh player from dominating his serves, while also enhancing his attacking strategies.
There was a time when Bublik played as if the match result didn't matter to him. However, the Kazakh player now delivers commendable performances. Last season, he excelled, winning the Halle grass tournament and an indoor event in Antwerp.
This year, Bublik continues his fine form, having already secured a trophy in Montpellier and reaching the final in Dubai, where he lost to Ugo Humbert. Noteworthy is his initial tour performance in Adelaide, where despite being a strong contender, he was defeated by Jack Draper after overcoming Lorenzo Musetti in an earlier round.
Bublik's clay court season was lacklustre, prompting him to aim for success on grass once more, possibly clinching another title in Stuttgart.
In the 1st round in Stuttgart, Bublik defeated Hamad Medjedovic, dominating the 1st set and clinching the 2nd in a tiebreak. The match against Musetti will be tougher; Bublik must fully exert himself in rallies, combining different play styles and cross shots.
In 2022, at the London grass tournament, Bublik took the 1st set against Musetti, who then withdrew due to injury. This year, in Adelaide, Bublik narrowly won against Musetti in a three-set match.
I'm backing Lorenzo Musetti with a handicap of (+2.5) games. If Bublik does win, it won’t be by a large margin, as Musetti is creative, technical, and can adeptly handle his serve.
