On Friday, 10th May, as part of the 36th round of the Italian Serie A, Frosinone will host Inter Milan. The "Canaries" continue their fight for survival, currently sitting just two points clear of the relegation zone, whilst the guests are enjoying the remainder of the season, having already secured the championship title.
The clash will take place in Frosinone at the Benito Stirpe Stadium.
Fans expect Frosinone to fight until the last minute of the closing round to avoid relegation after returning to the top division last summer. Sitting in 16th place in the Serie A table, the team is only two points out of the relegation trio, with three matches left in the championship. The "Canaries" have improved their position in recent weeks, not losing in any of their last six league matches (1 win and 5 draws).
After an important 3:0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Salernitana, the blue-yellows managed a draw against direct competitor Empoli last weekend (0:0). Di Francesco's charges will be glad to return to their home ground, where they have collected 78% of their Serie A points (25 out of 32) this campaign, second only to Granada (86%, 18 out of 21) in Europe's top five leagues.
Inter Milan, denominated title winners this season, conquered the Scudetto easily after defeating Milan 2:1 on April 22nd. Throughout the campaign, the Nerazzurri have suffered only two losses in the championship, both times falling to crisis-ridden Sassuolo. The second setback happened last weekend in Emilia (0:1), ending an impressive 28-match unbeaten streak in Serie A: Armand Llorente scored the solitary goal on the 20th minute of the first half, with the guests only managing a single shot on target.
Simone Inzaghi will not want his team to end the season on a sour note and will surely urge them to avoid consecutive losses for the first time since April last year. This has only once happened during a triumphant season, back in 1953, where the Nerazzurri lost three times consecutively. The Milan side could surpass their previous highest points tally (91 in the 2020-21 campaign) if they defeat Frosinone on Friday.
Inter have defeated Frosinone with an aggregate score of 13:1 in the past five meetings, with the first round ending in a victory for the favourites (2:0).
Understanding that one or two victories in the remaining matches could be enough to ensure their continued presence in the top flight, Frosinone are determined to grab points with the support of their home fans. Inter has already secured their title and are simply enjoying the rest of the season - the players are more concerned about avoiding unnecessary injury before holidays and international tournaments. I don't predict a rout here and bet on the underdog's handicap 1.5.
Frosinone desperately need points, meaning the team won't sitting back in their own half. I'm betting that the "Canaries" will score at least one goal.
Frosinone is serving, on average, more than five corners per match in the current campaign, so it is sensible to bet on Frosinone's individual total over 3.5 corners.
The hosts are motivated by their survival fight and will not hold back in duels. I bet on the underdog's win in yellow cards.
I'm betting on a final score of 1:1.
