Udinese - Napoli predictions and free betting tips [06/05/2024]

On Monday, May 6th, within the 35th round of the Italian Serie A, Udinese will host Napoli on their home ground. Although the visitors recently handed over the Scudetto to Inter Milan and are only vying for a finish in the European zone, the Friulians are fighting for survival and are three points behind the saving 17th spot.

Udinese, occupying the 18th place in the Serie A standings and being just three points away from the drop zone, is in grave danger of relegation as there are only four rounds left in the championship. The Friulians need to improve their results in May, having won only one of their last 10 matches in the championship, drawing four times and losing five times. However, they managed to carve out a draw with Bologna (1-1) last weekend in Fabio Cannavaro's second game in charge.

The precise first-half strike of Martin Paiiero put the underdog in front, but the Rossoblu, even despite being reduced to 10 men, restored parity on the scoreboard in the 78th minute of the meeting through the efforts of Saelemaekers. Prior to that, the Zebras had suffered three straight defeats (from Inter, Verona, and Roma). Only the already relegated Salernitana has amassed fewer points in home matches than the hosts (a mere 12) this season; moreover, the Friulians have won just one of 17 games on their own turf. 

Napoli

Last season's Serie A champion, Napoli, is having a much harder time this campaign, having changed several managers. Occupying the 9th spot in the standings, the Neapolitan team has a good chance of securing a European berth: Thanks to Atalanta's successful performances in the Europa League and the country's Cup, the eighth spot also gives the right to play in the Conference League. The guests have been in crisis in the recent weeks, recording only one win in the past seven rounds, drawing four times and losing twice.

After losing away to Empoli (1:0), the Sky-Blues shared points with Roma (2:2) last weekend: goals by Matias Olivera and Victor Osimhen were answered by precise strikes from Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham.  Given the team's performances, it's no surprise that reports of a possible appointment of Antonio Conte as head coach next summer are becoming increasingly frequent. Napoli faces a rather tough championship finale: after visiting Udine, they will play Fiorentina and Bologna.

In their last 15 meetings with Napoli, Udinese picked up only two points, conceding an average of nearly three goals per game. The first leg also ended with a crushing victory for the Sky-Blues, with a score of 4:1.

Given that Udinese has drawn half of their matches this season, they could find themselves in Serie B due to their inability to finish off opponents in matches. Napoli, too, is often guilty of wastefulness in the final third, and staff losses do not allow the coaching staff to count on more than a Conference League berth. Considering all factors, it's reasonable to bet on a draw this evening.

Although Udinese concedes, on average, two goals per game, they have also rarely come away without scoring in six out of their last seven rounds. Confidently place a bet on "both teams to score".
