However, the capital's club has shown inconsistency in their results since the start of the season: currently the Giallorossi are in 8th place in Serie A, trailing their opponents by only 1 point. In recent weeks, the Wolves have regularly stumbled, as evidenced by their single victory in the last 5 matches with 2 draws and 2 losses. Roma lost 1:0 to Juventus before New Year and drew 1:1 with Atalanta at home last weekend.

Bergamo took the lead thanks to Teun Koopmeiners, but Paulo Dybala equalised from the penalty spot, after which Mourinho was sent off for disciplinary punishment. Moreover, the visitors finished second in their Europa League group and will face Feyenoord in the last 32 of the tournament. From 2003 to 2013, Roma reached the national cup final seven times, winning it twice in 2007 and 2008, but has failed to replicate the same success afterwards.
