One of the headline matches in the upcoming 19th round of the Bundesliga is on the horizon. Bayern, still vying to catch up with Bayer, is set to visit Augsburg. The clash promises to be an engaging one, packed with exciting events from end to end. It's one we most definitely need to dive into and dissect, hence, let's get started. The match will take place at the WWK Arena.
Year in, year out, Augsburg never seems to change. Each season finds this team somewhere in the middle of the table, exhibiting football that is more or less on par with their previous exploits. The team's playing style stays virtually the same, with their focus mainly on counterattacks and quick plays along the flanks. Unfortunately, the quality of their players doesn’t always result in successful execution of this style of play, hence their current tenth place position in the Bundesliga. The team's current form is fair with two wins, two losses and a draw.
What Augsburg lacks, however, is consistency. For instance, against teams with strong players, they struggle to perform at their best, resulting in losses against Stuttgart and Bayer. That is simply because they are quite literally outplayed by clubs with more expensive and talented athletes. Such is the fate of Augsburg. It would be safer to assume that no "wow" moment will be arriving in the second half of the season.
As it usually goes, when Bayern loses a match, more losses are not to be expected for quite some time. Yet, in an astonishing twist, Bayern, featuring superstar forward Harry Kane, has failed to score more than two goals in three out of their past five matches. Despite the killer flanks they boast, since the winter break, Tuchel's side seems to have come out looking somewhat lethargic.
They haven’t had the monster look they possessed just two seasons ago. It's like they've become nothing more than a team with good, strong players. While I have no right to critique Tuchel, I can't for the life of me work out what is going on with Bayern's strategy currently. But it's clear that even a lacklustre Bayern is still stronger than 90% of the German championship.
I hardly believe I'll surprise you today. But let it be known that Augsburg stands little to no chance in the upcoming game. As I already mentioned, Bayern has been struggling to repetitively pull off convincing victories for some time and I believe this will only fan the flames of the Munich team's determination. Therefore, a plethora of goals can be expected in this game. Most, if not all, will likely come from Bayern. So, I suggest you take the handicap of (-1.5) for the away team.
This one might be fairly obvious as well. I think Harry Kane is due a couple of goals, as we haven’t seen a stellar performance from him in Germany for a while. Therefore, let's place our bet on him scoring in this face-off. Good luck to all!
