On Sunday, 4th February, as part of the 23rd tour of the Premier League, Manchester United will welcome West Ham to their home ground. The proteges of Erik ten Hag emerged victorious mid-week with a 3:4 score against Wolverhampton after a dramatic finale, while the "Hammers" shared a draw with Bournemouth – 1:1.
Manchester United: Onana; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Mainoo, McTominay; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund.
West Ham: Areola; Coufal, Aguerd, Zouma, Emerson; Soucek, Alvarez; Kudus, Ward-Prowse, Cornet; Bowen.
The match will take place in Manchester at Old Trafford.
Manchester United currently only occupies 7th place in the Premier League table and, most likely, will not make it to the Champions League next season (the gap from the 4th spot is 8 points). The "Red Devils" struggle to demonstrate consistency in results: they have lost 3 out of their last 7 Premier League matches, won twice, and shared points twice. This week, Erik ten Hag's proteges mustered a 3:4 win over Wolverhampton, and a week before, the visitors had a hard time triumphing over Newport from League 2 in the 1/16 of the FA Cup final (2:4).
At Molineux, Pablo Sarabia, Max Kilman and Pedro Neto responded to goals by Rashford, Rasmus Høiland and Scott McTominay; however, the tie was broken in the 97th minute: Kobbie Mainoo's spectacular shot into the bottom right corner brought victory to the Mancunians. Fans of the English giant will certainly be upset by the fact that the visitors have become only the second team in the Premier League to concede 50 goals in all competitions this season, along with bottom-of-the-table Sheffield.
At the moment, West Ham only occupies the 6th place in the Premier League table, leading their upcoming opponent by one point. The Londoners can boast a current unbeaten run of 6 tours (3 wins, 3 draws), however, considering the FA Cup, the 'Hammers' have been unable to win for five consecutive games. To note, in the championship, David Moyes's charges shared a draw with Brighton (0:0), Sheffield United (2:2), and Bournemouth this week (1:1), while they exited the Cup at the hands of Bristol City in the 1/16 finals (1:0).
Just three minutes after the start of the clash with the 'Cherries' on Thursday, Dominic Solanke scored his 13th goal of the campaign, but James Ward-Prowse levelled the score in the second half. Besides, West Ham performs well away from home: 17 points scored in 11 matches (sixth indicator in the league), 18 goals scored, and 22 conceded.
On 23 December, West Ham deservedly defeated Man United with a score of 2:0 in London, but in each of the past three visits to Old Trafford, the Hammers were beaten.
In the league table both teams go head to head, however, the current form of the Mancunians impresses more than West Ham's recent results. With Onana and Amrabat returning after the Africa Cup, the hosts should bridge the gap from the European cup zone and deal with the ailing Hammers. Betting for the home victory.
In six out of the past seven head-to-head matches at Old Trafford between these teams, no more than two goals were scored. There is no reason to believe we will see a high-scoring clash this time, hence, I place a bet on the total goals under 3.
No doubt, Manchester will play as the first team and will take possession of the ball from the opening minutes. The hosts will create lots of flank attacks and will take at least 6 corners.
Both sides earn, on average, 2.5 yellow cards per game – so we confidently bet on the total yellow cards of over 3.5.
I'm placing a precise score prediction of 2:0 in favour of Manchester United.
