On Saturday, 3 February, as part of the 23rd round of the Premier League, Brighton will host Crystal Palace on their home ground. Roberto De Zerbi's charges suffered a humiliating defeat against Luton Town with a score of 4:0 this week, while the "eagles" barely dealt with sinking Sheffield United - 3:2.
Brighton: Verbruggen; Webster, Dunk, Igor; Hinshelwood, Baleba, Gross, Estupinan; Lallana; Welbeck, Ferguson.
Crystal Palace: Henderson; Richards, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Lerma, Hughes, Eze; Olise, Mateta, Ayew.
The match will take place in Brighton at Selhurst Park.
Brighton's recent unsuccessful outcomes have greatly complicated the "seagulls" task of securing a European cup ticket. Roberto De Zerbi's charges occupy only the 8th place in the Premier League table, having 32 points in their active. In the previous seven rounds of the championship, the hosts only won once, drew four times and lost twice. Last week, the Southerners once again disappointed their fans: they suffered a heavy defeat with a score of 4:0 from Luton, which is in the relegation zone. The hat-trick was scored by Adebayo, and one more goal was scored by Ogbene.
However, Brighton remains invincible in their last 10 matches in all competitions at the Amex; in 11 home Premier League matches, the whites and blues have scored 22 goals, conceded only 14, and have accumulated 20 points. Taking first place in their Europa League group, Brighton directly advanced to the 1/8 finals and can concentrate on the domestic arena until March.
Having accustomed to languishing in the lower half of the league table in recent years, Crystal Palace currently occupies the 14th place in the Premier League overall and is 6 points above the relegation zone. After a period alarming for all the fans, the Londoners managed to win twice in the last three rounds. Roy Hodgson's charges suffered a crushing defeat against Arsenal with a score of 5:0, but also won against Brentford (3:1) and struggling Sheffield United (3:2) this week.
The "eagles" were stunned by Ben Brereton Dias's goal in the first minute of the match, but in the first half Michael Olise twice assisted Eberechi Eze, and even though James McAtee temporarily restored the Blades' advantage in between Eze's goals, in the end, the Londoners triumphed thanks to a crazy 20-metre shot by Olise. It's important to note that the red and blues failed to win any of their last six away matches in all competitions.
Since the 2020-21 season, Palace hasn't won against Brighton in the Premier League, although four of the last five head-to-head matches ended with a score of 1:1, including the December match at Selhurst Park.
De Zerbi's charges simply don't have the right to stumble this weekend, otherwise, the gap from the European cup zone will increase to an obscene number of points. Crystal Palace, at the same time, plays poorly away from home - and the matches against Brighton have been difficult for the "eagles" in recent years. My prediction is a victory for the favourites.
Brighton has scored 22 goals in 11 home matches, but has conceded more than a goal per game, on average. Considering the excellent form of Palace strikers, it seems reasonable to bet on a total over 2.5 goals.
Brighton will launch an attack from the very first minutes with the support of their fans and will try to gain an advantage in the score as early as possible. I expect at least three corner kicks from the "seagulls" in the first half.
A draw would suit the Palace from a strategic point of view, hence the guests will not shy away from the small foul tactic - I bet on the eagles winning the yellow cards.
I'm betting on an exact score of 2:1 in favour of Brighton.
