The relegation-threatened Stoke City will welcome Middlesbrough at their home ground on Saturday afternoon. While the "Potters" occupy the 22nd position on the league table, "Boro" sits at the 13th place, far from any significant battle.
The threat of relegation for the "Potters" has become more than real, thanks to their six losses in their last seven games. One would think that a victory over QPR should boost the team's confidence, but following setbacks against Coventry and Cardiff have seen Stoke City sink into the relegation zone.
They've picked up just 19 points in 17 home games, which is a woeful record for a survival-struggling team. Left-back Jordan Thompson is disqualified, so Lyndon Gooch's return to the starting line-up is expected.
Although "Boro" still has a game in hand, any loss of points will shatter their already slim hopes of making the playoffs. After a triumphant win against Leicester City, the team managed to lose to Plymouth, which noticeably affected the mood among both players and fans. Middlesbrough's infirmary is full, with only Dael Fry potentially returning to the line-up.
In a match where both teams have something to lose, I prefer to take the handicap 0 on the visitors with cover. They are certainly more pleasing to watch, and they have an excellent chance to prove that the setback against Plymouth was just a fluke.
Both teams are largely skewed towards defence, so I'm not expecting a high-scoring game here. If goals are scored, the focus will shift immediately to defending that advantage. Thus, a total under appears to be the most logical option.
