Dear friends, greetings to all! Today, I would like to analyse the 33rd round Championship match between West Bromwich Albion and Southampton. The encounter will take place at the Hawthorns on 16th February.
This season has been situated favourably for the Baggies – 5th place in Championship, 52 points from 31 games. The team hasn't been very productive, only netting 45 goals, but neither have they let many past (29 goals). West Bromwich has already departed all England’s cup competitions.
Another significant piece of data reveals how successful the team is at home – 36 points from 16 matches (the 3rd best in the league). The Baggies have been triumphant in their last five home matches, having only lost twice at home this season.
The Saints find themselves even better placed this season than the Baggies - 3rd in the championship, having amassed 64 points from 31 games. The team is very productive, tallying up 61 goals whilst only conceding 38.
Before the previous round, Southampton was on an impressive unbeaten run – 22 games, but suffered a defeat to Bristol (1:3) on Tuesday, hence ending the streak. The Saints have had a relatively good away record – 29 points from 16 matches.
In the first round, the Saints proved superior (2:1).
An average of 2.62 goals are scored in Southampton's away games this season. I believe this match will not deviate from the trend, and a decent number of goals will be scored.
Given Southampton's high-scoring away games this season, I suspect that more than 2,5 goals will be scored in this match. In my view, a total of over 2.5 goals in the game seems apt.
