Cuiabá and Bragantino will meet today at brazil Serie A.
In recent weeks, Cuiabá has delighted their supporters by overcoming the early-season slump. Coach Petit was appointed during a six-match winless streak (five losses) where the team failed to score any goals. However, a 2:5 victory over Criciuma in early June changed their fortunes, and a 2:1 defeat to Cruzeiro on 13 June was their last loss to date. Since then, they have beaten Fortaleza and São Paulo and secured draws against Atlético Goianiense and Corinthians (1:1) last week. To highlight, despite scoring only two goals in the past three matches compared to 11 in the prior three, the defensive improvements have been notable. Marllon put Cuiabá ahead early against Corinthians, only for Mateus Bidu to equalise after Ito's missed penalty.
Cuiabá ranks 18th in home matches (five points from six games, five goals scored, six conceded). Ramon returns after a one-match suspension, while Max Alves, Gabriel Knesovich, and Deyverson remain injured. Cleison, who trails only Flamengo’s Pedro in match-winning goals, will spearhead the attack alongside Cafu and Pitta, with Mineiro and Denilson in midfield. Marllon and Empereur will form the central defence, with veteran Walter in goal.
Bragantino is seven places above Cuiabá in the standings, but recent results are underwhelming. Three losses in the last five fixtures have seen them slide down to eighth, reflecting a disappointing start to the campaign. Last week, they faced Botafogo and fell 2:1. Lucas Evangelista equalised Carlos Eduardo's opener before the opposition midfielder secured victory at 53 minutes. A win on Sunday could propel Bragantino back into the Copa Libertadores zone, just one point behind Atlético Paranaense (19). Conversely, a defeat might drop them to 11th place.
Bragantino ranks 11th in away matches (five points from six games) and has failed to keep a clean sheet in the last five rounds. Andres Hurtado is with Ecuador's national team for Copa America and will not participate. Henrique Mosquera, who missed the last match due to suspension, is expected to return, while Mateus Fernandes (thigh) and Natan Camargo (knee) are injured. The attack will likely include Elinho, Borbas, and Evangelista, with Jadsom and Raul anchoring the midfield.
The last meeting between these teams was in August last year, with Bragantino winning 2:0 at home. Cuiabá has failed to beat Bragantino in their last four encounters.
Petit’s men have been impressive recently, going unbeaten in their last four matches. Improved defensive coordination has been pivotal for Cuiabá. Bragantino, on the contrary, is struggling and seems to be in a minor crisis. I don’t expect much from Bragantino and back a double chance for Cuiabá.
