On Tuesday, June 11 a friendly match between the Moldova and Ukraine national teams will take place.
The hosts did not qualify for the Euro, but they were quite close to reaching the playoffs. In recent friendlies, they defeated Cyprus (3-2) with great determination, the Cayman Islands (4-0), and secured a draw with North Macedonia (1-1). The squad is far from star-studded, with perhaps only Ryabchuk from Spartak and Moțpan from Fakel being notable mentions. Ukraine, in this regard, is on a higher level.
After their triumphant victory over Iceland (2-1) to secure a place at the Euro, Ukraine has slowed down. They played a goalless draw with Germany, thanks to Trubin, but lost to Poland quite unpromisingly (1-3). However, the match against the Poles featured a rather experimental lineup, so the real level of the team’s core is still hard to gauge.
The last time these teams met was in 2014, when Ukraine secured a 1-0 victory.
A victory in this match is important for Ukraine from a psychological perspective, to approach the Euro fully motivated and in good spirits. I believe the visitors should win, as they have everything needed for it. I would take a win for Ukraine at 1.62 (odds are getting heavily slashed).
