On Sunday, 9 June, a friendly football match will take place between the national teams of France and Canada.
Today, the French national team announced their final squad for the Euros, and there are no surprises—everyone is in their deserved spots. For me, the French are the main favourites for the upcoming tournament, with only Spain potentially posing a challenge.
Yes, in the recent friendlies, France hasn't looked incredibly strong, defeating Luxembourg only (3:0), struggling against Chile (3:2), and even losing to Germany (0:2). But in official matches, things will be different.
The Canadians also have a major tournament (Copa America) coming up soon. In their last friendly match, they faced the Netherlands but lost (0:4). In the first half, they handled the ball well and even created dangerous chances. However, after conceding a goal from Depay, the Canadians seemed to lose their composure and their defence fell apart.
It's been 38 years since these teams last met, when France secured a victory (1:0) at the 1986 World Cup.
Canada is actually a decent team when fully focused. The hosts should indeed win here, but I don't expect a blowout. I'll take HANDICAP2 (+2.5) and anticipate something like (3:1, 2:0).
