On Sunday, 9 June, the United States national team will host Colombia in a friendly match. The hosts defeated Mexico 2-0 in March, while the Latin Americans triumphed over Romania (3-2) and continue their preparation for the upcoming continental championship.
The match will take place at FedEx Field in Landover.
The American national team is in high spirits as they prepare for a friendly with Colombia. Thanks to their 2-0 victory over Mexico, the hosts secured another CONCACAF Nations League title this spring. They had clinched this title earlier, in 2023 and 2021. As they prepare to host Copa America for the second time in their history, the USA team is poised to put up a worthy challenge to some of South America's top teams.
The hosts have never won the Copa America, with their last participation being in 2016 (fourth place). This summer, Gregg Berhalter's men will face Panama, Bolivia, and Uruguay in Group C, yet now, they focus on the upcoming friendlies, including a clash with Brazil in a few days. It is notable that the "Stars and Stripes" have won four of their last five home fixtures, keeping three clean sheets in those matches.
Colombia appears as the favourite for the upcoming encounter, considering their experience in international tournaments. Although "Los Cafeteros" did not participate in the World Cup in Qatar, they seem to have found good form since then, remaining unbeaten since February 2022. Under the leadership of Néstor Lorenzo, "Los Cafeteros" are unbeaten in 21 consecutive matches, including notable wins over Germany (2-0) and Brazil (2-1) in World Cup qualifiers, where they currently hold third place in the standings.
Furthermore, the Colombians have kept a clean sheet in 13 of these matches, positioning themselves as dark horses for Copa America success. The only absentee from Colombia's squad for Copa America is Davinson Sánchez (Galatasaray).
The teams met last January and settled for a goalless draw. Before that, Colombia had won four consecutive head-to-head matches.
With an unbeaten streak of 21 matches, Colombia stands toe-to-toe with the hosts. The American team, despite boasting numerous talented players, does not match the Latin Americans' experience in international tournaments. I believe both teams will showcase quality football and share the spoils.
Both sides have excellent attacking lines – Weah, Pulisic, Díaz, Duran, and others. It's unlikely we will see a low-scoring game, so I'm backing "Both Teams to Score."
Both teams advocate attacking football and will rely on their swift flanks. I'm betting on a total corners over 8.5.
I don't anticipate a flurry of yellow cards in this friendly match, so I’m betting on a total bookings under 3.5.
I'm calling for a 1-1 draw.
