A friendly football match between the national teams of Spain and Northern Ireland will take place on Saturday, 8 June.
As expected, the Spaniards easily thrashed Andorra (5-0) in their last friendly. Mikel Oyarzabal scored a hat-trick, despite having a mediocre season with Real Sociedad, but he plays excellently for the national team. Unfortunately, young talent Lamine Yamal did not get valuable time on the field, although he could have been given a chance to shine in the end. The Spanish team looks solid and there is little to fault.
The visitors missed out on the Euros, having failed in their qualifying group. However, this year the team has not lost a match. Northern Ireland drew with Romania (1-1) and defeated Scotland away (1-0). Their squad is quite strong, especially the defensive line: Evans, Bradley, Lewis (players with good experience in the Premier League for top clubs).
The last time the teams met was in the 2007 Euro Championship, where Spain emerged victorious (1-0).
Spain is the clear favourite here, but the visitors know how to defend and will likely play with five defenders, so I don't expect a rout. I'll go for a win for Spain and the match total under 3.5 – yes.
