On Friday, 7 June, in the framework of a friendly football match, Albania will face Azerbaijan.
As expected, the Albanians effortlessly defeated Liechtenstein (3:0) and thoroughly outclassed their opponent. Although Albania doesn't boast a star-studded lineup, their squad is solid and well-coordinated. They performed excellently in the Euro qualifiers, finishing at the top of their group, and now they are preparing for the upcoming tournament, although luck was not on their side with the group selections.
Unfortunately, we won't see Azerbaijan at the Euros, but we will watch them in the Nations League, where their chances might be better. In their last five matches, they have been pretty decent. Sure, they lost to Belgium (0:5) and Austria (0:1), but they defeated Sweden (3:0) and Mongolia (1:0), and drew with Bulgaria (1:1).
The last time the teams met was back in 2011, when Azerbaijan clinched the victory (1:0).
This is Albania's last friendly match before the Euros, where I don't want to write them off prematurely, but it is unlikely they will advance from the group (Italy, Spain, Croatia). However, the hosts can reasonably aim for victory here with odds close to 2.00, though a repeat of the Liechtenstein match is not expected.
