On Wednesday, 5 June, a friendly football match between the national teams of Spain and Andorra will take place at 22:30 GMT.
Spain cruised through their qualifying group and are eagerly awaiting the start of the Euros. In their recent friendlies, they drew 3-3 with Brazil and lost 0-1 to Colombia. The Spanish squad has seen significant changes this year. Two newcomers to note are Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal. Both lads play for Barcelona and were born in 2007. These young stars are likely to get their chance on the pitch and must justify the expectations of the coaching staff and fans.
There’s not much to say about Andorra. They failed to qualify for the Euros and completely botched their group. Their attack looks dismal, and their defence is even worse. Hardly any of their players have experience in at least the top 10 leagues. Their recent friendlies were also unsuccessful: they lost to Bolivia (0-1) and managed a draw with South Africa (1-1).
The last time the teams met was exactly 20 years ago, when Spain thrashed Andorra 4-0.
I think history might repeat itself, and Spain will secure another emphatic victory. I don’t see how Andorra could surprise the hosts, so I’m taking a Handicap 1 (-3.5) at odds of 1.58, and I’m looking forward to a spectacle from Yamal.
