Tuesday, the 7th of May, will witness the French champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) welcoming Borussia Dortmund in their home field for a critical Champions League semi-final second leg match. A minimal defeat at Signal Iduna Park last week has left PSG a mere 90 minutes away from exiting the competition.
The match will take place at Parc-des-Princes in Paris.
Despite a disappointing first leg at Signal Iduna Park, PSG had opportunities to secure a draw with solid chances from Dembele and Fabian Ruiz. Similar to the Barcelona match in the previous round, Luis Enrique's charges will again be backed into a corner for this second leg, yet they have the advantage of home turf. A championship title was comfortably bagged despite a challenging game against Le Havre (3:3) a fortnight ago.
The hosts have suffered only two home-field defeats in the current campaign: against Barcelona in the first leg of the quarterfinals (2:3) and Nice back in the fifth round in September last year (2:3). Their schedule was revised to play against Nice this weekend after initial delays.
Borussia Dortmund put up a commendable performance last week with a slim 1:0 victory. This win awarded the German team the second-best UEFA coefficient, guaranteeing five Bundesliga representatives in the subsequent autumn's Champions League. Edin Terzic's charges, currently fifth in the league, would undoubtedly appreciate this.
They aspire to win their second Champions League, a fitting farewell to Marco Reus’s final season with the team. However, their recent away form has been lacking with defeats against Atletico Madrid (2:1) in the quarterfinals' first leg and RB Leipzig (4:1) ten days ago. Yet, they confidently defeated Augsburg (4:1) at home last Saturday.
Last week's match marked the seventh meetup and the third in this season between the two clubs. In the group stage, Dortmund overcame PSG (2:0) and secured a draw in the home leg (1:1).
My bet is on a triumphant win for Paris Saint-Germain. They have suffered only two home game losses this season, conceding three goals in each match. It's uncertain how Luis Enrique will crack Dortmund's compact defense. However, the hosts have had a week's rest and are backed by their home crowd.
Paris created ample opportunities in the first leg but lacked finishing. I would bet on PSG's ITO 1.5 goals.
PSG needs to compensate for the deficit in the first leg, thus I expect they will attack Dortmund's goal from the onset. Hence, I place a bet on PSG for over 5.5 corners.
Given the lack of history of rough play from both sides, I would bet on TU 4.5 yellow cards.
Overall, I predict a 2:0 victory for PSG.
