Today Copenhagen is hosting Bayern within the scope of the 2nd round of the Champions League's group stage at the "Parken" stadium in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen: Grabara, Mæhle, Lund, Vavro, Ankersen, Claesson, Falk, Elyounoussi, Lerager, Larsson, Bardi.
Bayern: Ulreich, Davis, Kim, Upamecano, Laimer, Kimmich, Goretzka, Coman, Musiala, Sane, Kane.
Having gathered 22 points in 10 rounds of the Danish national championship, Copenhagen currently sits at the top of the table. In the previous round, they fell to Midtjylland, losing 2:0. Head coach Jakob Neestrup has been deploying a 4-3-3 formation. In the first round of the group stage, the Danes nearly triumphed over Galatasaray, but ended up losing their lead towards the end, finishing with a 2:2 draw.
This season, Copenhagen has shown a successful run in the European tournaments, scoring high. Neestrup tends to take risky tactics, sometimes opting to feature five nominal forwards. Such a front-loaded lineup, however, often results in conceding goals since the Danes struggle with defensive play. Larsen is particularly in good form.
Bayern is on the hunt for yet another title in Germany, with Tuchel's proteges currently occupying the 3rd position in the Bundesliga and trailing 2 points behind the leader. In their last outing, the team orchestrated a 2:2 draw with Leipzig, having had a 2-goal deficit. The head coach uses a 4-2-3-1 formation.
In their Champions League opener, the Germans put on a show against Manchester United, claiming a 4:3 victory. The scoreline should not mislead as the English side looked quite weak against a solid Bayern. Tuchel tactfully varied the pace and whenever Bayern needed to accelerate, they scored. Tuchel, a character in his own right, has apparently had a fall-out with Muller who intends to leave Munich due to a lack of game time. Upamecano, the defender, has been performing below his abilities, bringing goal chances for the opponents persistently. Ulreich, the goalie, has shown shaky performances, which transmits nerves to the defenders. Tell has been the usual driver of success in recent matches.
The rivals have never met in official matches before.
Copenhagen excels at their home turf, as Tuchel noted during the pre-match press conference. I'll play the handicap on the hosts, not expecting a blowout though.
