Tomorrow kicks off a battle of the NHL's 2023-2024 regular season with contenders hailing from the Western
Conference. Night hockey aficionados are in for a showdown between Calgary and San Jose.
The Calgary squad has taken part in 81 official matches of the NHL's 2023-2024 regular season. With
81 matches played and 79 points earned, Calgary currently holds the 11th spot in the Western Conference league table. Amid the 2023-2024 season, Calgary's results have been less than stellar, situating the team in the bottom half of the league
table. Currently, Calgary occupies the 11th position in the Western Conference standings, a rank that aptly represents their standing within the team. The final 11th place in the Western Conference table might not be the best result, but for Calgary's current squad, it's as good as it gets. They will need to defend this 11th spot, bearing in mind that Seattle might still catch up. Throughout the regular season, Calgary players strived to put up their best efforts and collect as many points as possible, yet the team's resources weren't sufficient for a Stanley Cup playoff entrance. Although Calgary did fight for a playoff spot, their competitors clearly dominated. In terms of game performance, Calgary is average amongst competitors, both scoring and conceding at average rates. In their last 5 matches, Calgary succumbed only twice, losing to Vancouver and Los Angeles.
The San Jose Sharks have held 81 official matches in the NHL's 2023-2024 regular season. With 81 matches under their belt, the Sharks
have accumulated 47 points, which leaves them at 16th place in the Western Conference league table, the very bottom. Throughout the course of the
2023-2024 season, the Sharks demonstrated themselves as the major outsiders of the league, unable to compete with even the mediocre
opponents. As the season ended, the Sharks were the worst team in the Western Conference. Such an outcome was a logical progression of the Sharks' sluggish start in the regular season and continued downward trend. The entirety of the season proved to be a struggle for the Sharks and their performance deteriorated with each match. By December, it was evident that the Sharks would be absent from the Stanley Cup playoffs. Before the year-end festivities even started, the Sharks were already in the bottom half of the table and they remained stuck there. As for the Sharks' gameplay, it leaves much to be desired. In 81 games, the San Jose players have scored only 180 goals, failing to breach the 200 barrier. In their last 5 battles, the Sharks have managed to achieve victory only once, against Seattle.
San Jose and Calgary have faced off in 57 matches. San Jose boasts of 30 victories, while Calgary has prevailed in 27 meetings.
Calgary will secure a win in regular time. It is evident that Calgary is more in need of a victory in the final match of the championship.
They still have league motivation, whereas San Jose seemed to have lost theirs back in February.
