American Hockey League. Regular Championship 2023/2024. One of the opening matches of the game day and a confrontation between the league's best team, the current cup holder, and a mid-table team. The Hershey "Bears" will host the Charlotte "Checkers" at home.
In fact, it's very interesting to follow Washington's farm this year, as this is literally the future of a team that is currently restructuring, literally in a couple of years we can see the backbone of this club in the NHL, but they are going for the second cup in two years. They currently lead the league's overall standings, not only in the Atlantic Division. After 70 matches, they scored 109 points. The "Bears" earned these points thanks to 52 overtime victories and five shootout losses. The remaining 13 Hershey matches were lost without any additional points. They are second in their division in goals scored – 224.
But in terms of goals conceded, they are ahead of the entire division. Their closest competitor is lagging behind by 47 goals. Hershey has 144 goals conceded. The "Bears" currently boast eight wins in their last ten matches and just two losses. But the winning streak is not as good, with only one consecutive victory. Moreover, they have also guaranteed themselves a division win.
Interestingly, the "Checkers" have already guaranteed themselves a place in the playoffs. They currently occupy the fourth place in the Atlantic Division, and after 69 matches, they have collected 83 points. These points Charlotte earned as a result of 38 regular-time victories and seven overtime losses. The remaining 24 matches "Checkers" lost without any additional points. What else is interesting in this confrontation is that Charlotte has not lost in a shootout this season, and Hershey has not lost in overtime, and now these two teams are going to meet.
Charlotte is also noted for their good defensive play, yes, they are only third in the division and lag behind Hershey by 50 goals in this parameter, but 194 is still a good result. In terms of goals scored, the situation is worse, but still not bad, the fourth position in the division and 209 goals. By the way, "Checkers" are third in the division in terms of losses. In the last ten matches they have seven wins, two regular losses and one overtime loss. The current streak is one loss.
This season, the Hershey "Bears" and the Charlotte "Checkers" have met six times. On four occasions, Hershey proved to be stronger - 4:2, 5:2, 4:1, 3:2. And two games were left for Charlotte - 3:1, 5:3.
In fact, it's very risky to bet on anyone here, because although the Hershey "Bears" are the favourite for this match according to Bets City – 2.10, they've already accomplished all of their regular tasks, so betting on them is risky. The odds for a Charlotte "Checkers" victory are 2.80. And it's risky here, too, because the opponent is very strong. But if I were to bet on anyone, I'd take a Charlotte victory.
However, to me, the best result and bet here seems to be the ITO2 (2.5) for 2.06. After all, I am leaning more towards the idea that Charlotte is closer to victory here, and therefore closer to scoring three goals in the match, and the odds on that are good.
