Continental Hockey League regular championship 2023/2024. The third match of the gaming day is highly anticipated in terms of how the teams play offensively, it promises to be an exciting match indeed. "Severstal" from Cherepovets will host "Spartak" from Moscow.
While Andrey Kozyrev is out sick, his team continues to fight for the fifth place in the conference and credit must be given where it's due, "Severstal" is starting to pull it off. They've acquired nine points out of the possible ten in the last five matches, winning four games and only losing one outside of regulation time. Currently, "Severstal" is not as efficient as they were at the beginning or middle of the season, but the teams they're playing against make it very difficult to showcase outstanding hockey.
After 62 matches, "Severstal" is fifth in the conference with 74 points. Out of these games, Cherepovets' club got points from 28 victories in regulation time, five outside it, and another eight losses earning them a point. The rest of the matches, namely, 21 encounters, were lost by "Severstal" without any additional points. Meanwhile, "Severstal" ranks fourth in terms of goals scored – 185, but when it comes to conceded goals, the situation is worse as they rank fifth from last with 169 goals conceded.
The team from Moscow had an unusual break in early February and did not play for almost a week. It's started to affect the team's performance, as "Spartak" has won all three games since the break, with at least five goals in each match barring one. The results of "Spartak's" last three games are 5:3, 4:1, and 5:1 - a testament to the current excellent form displayed by the team. It will be interesting to see if they maintain this level during playoffs. "Spartak" is currently in fourth place in the conference, with 84 points collected from 63 matches.
These were earned through 34 victories in standard time, four outside the usual timeframe, and eight losses that brought in one point. The remaining 17 games were lost by "Spartak" without extra points. "Spartak" still has the lead in the KHL in terms of goals scored at 217. However, in terms of goals conceded, they rank fourth from bottom with 172 goals conceded.
'Severstal' Cherepovets and 'Spartak' Moscow have played 38 matches against each other. Of these, the Cherepovets club has 20 victories, while the Moscow club has won 18 encounters. This season, both matches were claimed by 'Spartak' with 6:4 and 5:3 scores.
I would opt for the Moscow team's victory, given how impressive 'Spartak' has been in recent games; it's hard to bet against them.
However, if you don't want to bet against the Moscow team, you can opt for the Total Over (TO 5.5) at 1.97. Both teams play offensively, and both head-to-head matches this season ended up going over the total. So why not ring in the over for the third time, especially when the chances of it happening are quite good.
