Continental Hockey League regular championship 2023/2024. The second match of the game day and the second confrontation of the last place in the conference against the first place, an attempt to take revenge for a bitter defeat. Admiral in Vladivostok will play against Metallurg from Magnitogorsk.
A unique club indeed, in Vladivostok this year. They can only win one of 11 matches against the severely suffering Siberia, and then beat the conference leader, who only lost two meetings in 2024. Predicting the next Admiral match in such a situation is a challenge. Their statistics look dreadful, yet they gather themselves for one match and win, apparently, without outplaying.
Currently, Admiral is 12th in the conference, having gained 43 points after 54 matches. Admiral earned these points from 10 wins in regular time, six outside of it, and 11 losses with one point. The remaining 27 meetings Admiral lost without earning any additional points. At the same time, Admiral is the weakest team in the East for goals scored – 113. With conceded goals, however, the situation is slightly better, they are third last in the conference with 154 goals.
While Admiral only won two of their last 12 matches, Metallurg on the contrary, only lost three out of their last 12 matches. Yes, there were defeats against Torpedo and Neftekhimik, not the strongest teams and Admiral now. It seems to me that Metallurg simply cannot get their act together when playing against weaker opponents. The fact remains that their last match ended in favor of the conference's bottom team.
Currently, Metallurg sits at the top of the league table with 78 points after 56 matches. Metallurg picked up these points from 28 wins in regular time, eight beyond it, and six losses with one point. Metallurg lost the remaining 14 matches without earning any additional points. They are the best team in the East for goals scored – 176. With conceded goals, the situation is slightly worse, they are only sixth in the conference with 140 goals.
Metallurg and Admiral have played 27 matches against each other. In these encounters, Metallurg has got 17 wins, while Admiral has only won ten matches. This season, Metallurg beat Admiral 5:2 on penalties. In contrast, Admiral won 2:1.
Here I just take Metallurg to win after their disastrous performance, they should be tearing up the game.
If you're not sure, you can take ITO2 (2.5) for 1.78. At least three goals, after a rather dry first meeting, Metallurg should score, and Admiral accordingly let them in.
