The 2023/2024 regular season of the Kontinental Hockey League rolls on. The first match of the game day continues its playoff scrap. Amur, located in Khabarovsk, aims to climb to the eighth spot of the Eastern conference not only by lost points, while Siberia from Novosibirsk, on the contrary, strives to avoid dropping out from the playoff zone.
The club from Khabarovsk has been faring really well recently, at one point it seemed that Amur had dropped out of the playoff chase, but everything changed in December, when Amur had a plethora of home matches and they executed them beautifully, clinching almost a maximum of points. At least, it's worth drawing attention to the last five matches, in which Amur has four victories. Currently, with lost points considered, Amur is already in the playoff zone and even leads its opponent for this match by two points. However, Amur still needs to secure these lost points, but even without them, if Amur wins this match, it will enter the top eight not just by lost points.
As of now, Amur is in the ninth position in the tournament table, after 47 matches it has racked up 50 points. Amur's points have been accumulated due to 17 victories within the regular time limit, four beyond it, and another eight defeats with one point. The remaining 18 matches were lost by Amur without any additional points. Amur isn't scoring well, only being the second from last with 109 pucks. But the defensive situation is much better – the fifth place in the conference and 117 scored on them.
And if Amur has been doing well in the recent matches, Sibir is the complete opposite. Out of the last five matches, the team from Novosibirsk has won only one match. In the remaining four games, Sibir has only two points meaning from ten possible points, Sibir scored only three, causing their competitors, namely Amur and Neftekhimik, to closely catch up in the playoff chase. If earlier Sibir claimed even higher spots, now they seem to be the outsiders in the playoff chase.
As of now, Sibir is in the eighth position in the conference. After 49 matches, they amassed 51 points. These points were accumulated due to 14 victories in regular time, seven beyond it and nine defeats each earning one point. The remaining 19 matches were lost by Sibir without any additional points. Meanwhile, Sibir is the third from last concerning scored pucks – 112. The situation is not much better in terms of goals against, also third from last place with 134 pucks.
Amur and Sibir have had 50 matches against each other. In this opposition, Amur has 15 victories to their tally, while Sibir has won 35 encounters. This season, both matches were won by Amur – 2:1 by shootout and 4:0 in the last Monday match.
We will continue to back an Amur's victory as currently, the teams are simply in different form.
Once again, if you do not want to back a victory for one of the teams, you can opt for TO (4.5) at 2.00. Yes, the teams have not topped this total this season but should finally do so at the third attempt.
