The Dallas Stars are set to host the Colorado Avalanche in an upcoming NHL regular season game.
The Dallas Stars have been maintaining a high position in the Central Division thanks to their strong home game. Despite a string of 6 home victories, Dallas recently lost to Montreal with a score of 3:4, marking the first time this season the team failed to score 4 goals in a home game. However, the Stars had earlier notched a resounding 8:1 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks, wherein Mason Marchment landed a hat-trick and Tyler Seguin contributed one goal and two assists. In the subsequent lost match, Marchment chalked up 2 assists. Their goalie, Scott Wedgewood, who’s played in 7 consecutive matches due to Jake Oettinger's injury, has displayed a reliable game with 23 saves and a record of 10 wins in 4 defeats. Key offensive contributions come from Roope Hintz, Matt Duchene and Joe Pavelski, with the team's point leader Jason Robertson maintaining a steady performance with 11 goals and 25 assists.
Wedgewood, with an average of 2.86 goals allowed per game, may hit the ice in the next game, continuing to stand in for the injured Oettinger. Russian forward Evgenii Dadonov has also contributed to the team's success with 8 goals and 8 assists in 34 games.
The Colorado Avalanche have been showing impressive progress recently, regaining their form despite the absence of Ross Colton who’s on the sidelines due to a leg injury. The team has claimed five victories from their last six matches, underlining their effectiveness particularly in the Sunday triumph. Valeri Nichushkin and Nathan MacKinnon have made significant contributions to these successes, with Nichushkin netting the decisive goals and pulling off a double, and MacKinnon scoring in overtime during the 5:4 game against the New York Islanders. Nichushkin has 19 goals and 19 assists, while MacKinnon has secured already 61 points, including 20 goals.
The Avalanche lost to the Arizona Coyotes only once in late December in their last five matches, and have shown improved results, winning over St. Louis and San Jose. The team ranks second in the league for offence, averaging 3.66 goals per game and 3.09 goals in the defence. MacKinnon, one of the NHL's top scorers, continues to demonstrate high performance with 20 goals and 41 assists. The Russian goaltender pair, Georgiev-Prosvetov, also displays reliable gameplay. Nichushkin scored 9 goals and made 8 assists in the past 11 matches.
Colorado demonstrated an advantage, winning three out of four matches. The Avalanche won with a score of 6:3 in matches on 19th of November 2023, the Stars won with a score of 3:1 on match of 4th of October 2023, Colorado triumphed in an overtime win with a score of 4:3 on the 2nd of October and 5:2 in a match on the 2nd of April 2023.
The Stars will still be without Jake Oettinger, who is certain to miss at least a few more weeks. Wedgewood isn't the type of goalie who’s capable of pulling through matches, both of the Georgiev-Prosvetov pair look better. So, I go for an Avalanche plus handicap, Colorado has had a great December and their head-to-head results from last year outperform.
