Tonight, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies will face off in the first game of their three-game series at the home ground of the more experienced team.
Walker Buehler lost his game last Saturday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk. Spencer Steer hit a home run in the first inning, and Will Benson did the same in the second. It was a step back compared to his previous outing, but it's worth considering that this was only his third start after Tommy John surgery. Los Angeles confidently holds the first place in the division, leading San Francisco by 5.5 games.
Dakota Hudson will take his 11th start of the season. Last week, he allowed only two runs on five hits against Philadelphia's potent offense. Hudson had nearly his best game of the season, but Colorado's bullpen didn't let him secure his second win of the regular season. Over 50.1 innings, Hudson has a 5.54 ERA and 1.59 WHIP, which does not bode well against the powerful Dodgers' bat. Charlie Blackmon, at 37, is starting to resemble his best years, but his playing time is still limited as Colorado bets on youth.
It’s fair to say that Dakota Hudson was fortunate to spend so much time on the mound against the Phillies. This was only his third time in 10 starts reaching the sixth inning. The Dodgers rank in the top five in OPS, and Mookie Betts is starting to come out of his mini-slump. Walker Buehler remains a top-class pitcher, so a confident win for the hosts would not be a surprise. A -2 handicap is a borderline bet with good chances of success.
Walker Buehler looked a bit rusty last week, so the Colorado attack might pose some unexpected challenges for the Dodgers' pitcher. The Dodgers, without a doubt, should score their runs off Hudson. This sets up a high-scoring game. TO 8 will be a good choice, but one could also take a more aggressive stance.
