Spanish club "Barcelona" cannot officially appoint Hans-Dieter Flick as the team's head coach due to a lack of funds for formalizing this appointment, reports the Spanish publication Marca. "Barcelona" needs to first offload some players and reduce the payroll to allocate the freed-up funds for other expenses. Until then, Flick will work with the team without official status.
On May 29, "Barcelona" officially announced that the German specialist became the team's new head coach and signed a two-year contract. He replaced Xavi, who was dismissed one match before the end of the current La Liga season. As a result, the Catalans finished second in the league standings and earned a spot in the Champions League group stage.
