On Saturday 20th April, as part of the 32nd round of Spain's La Liga, Rayo Vallecano will be welcoming Osasuna to their home turf. As it currently stands, Rayo Vallecano sit in 16th place in the league table, just six points adrift from the relegation zone. In contrast, Osasuna sit comfortably in 11th place, with no particular challenges for the remainder of the season.
Currently ranking 16th in the league table, Rayo Vallecano is left fighting for their survival in La Liga. Fortunately for the table bottom-dwellers, they've managed to maintain a certain degree of consistency at home, notching up four matches without defeat in their own environment. This includes key victories over Real Betis (2:0) and draws with Real Madrid (1:1), Cadiz (1:1), and Getafe just last week (0:0). Unfortunately for them, their home form this season has been more than disappointing. After 15 matches at Campo de Vallecas, they've only accumulated 14 points, which puts them second from bottom in the-home-form division, after Almeria (eight). Rayo fans, however, can draw some comfort from the fact that Inigo Perez's side have only let in two goals in the past five matches. Only FC Barcelona and Valencia can boast of a better record. Midfielder Oscar Valentin is suspended for this match due to an accumulation of yellow cards. All other things being equal, we should be seeing Isi Palason and Sergio Camello - who have netted three goals each this season - from the first minutes. Jorge De Frutos will continue in midfield, while Randy Nteka is the go-to man for creativity in attack.
Osasuna haven't been able to pick up the same pace as previous seasons and a top-10 placing looks to be the most they can hope for. Sitting in 11th place, they lost at home to their direct competitor for a spot in the UEFA Europa League, Valencia (0:1), on Monday night. This defeat marked Osasuna's third loss within four matches.
In terms of players to keep an eye on, it's a rather slim pickings for the Pamplonans this season, save for Munos (four goals) and Raul Garcia (three). Despite their recent defeat at the hands of Valencia, it is anticipated that Arrasate will stick to the tried and true 4-4-2 formation.
Osasuna are keen to follow up their earlier 1:0 victory over Rayo in the first round of this season with another win.
Without their best striker Ante Budimir, Osasuna will likely lack ideas in their attack. Furthermore, Rayo Vallecano have been demonstrating decent home results, being unbeaten for four consecutive rounds. The double outcome in favour of the hosts looks like a reliable bet.
