On Saturday, 4th May, within the 35th round of Italy's Serie A, "Monza" will host "Lazio" on its home ground. Ivan Tudor's charges continue to fight for a finish in the European zone and simply can't afford a slip-up, whilst the home team is finishing the season without any tournament tasks.
"Monza": Provedel; Casale, Romagnoli, Patric; Marusic, Guendouzi, Kamada, Anderson; Alberto, Zaccagni; Castellanos.
"Lazio": Di Gregorio; Birindelli, Mari, A. Carboni, Kyriakopoulos; Akpa Akpro, Pessina; V. Carboni, Colpani, Zerbin; Djuric.
The match will take place in Monza at the Brianteo Stadium.
Entering their second season in the top division, "Monza" continues to hold its place far from the relegation zone. Currently, the Lombards hold the 11th spot in the Serie A table and have utterly lost any chance of finishing in the European zone. After returning from the international break in March, Raffaella Palladino's wards haven’t won any of the five last matches (2 draws and 3 losses). After losing at home to "Atalanta" with a score of 1:2, last weekend the red-and-whites drew with "Lecce" (1:1).
Only an accurate strike by Matteo Pessina in the final seconds of the match prevented Monza's defeat, responding to a goal from Nikola Krstovič from 12 yards. The only thing that can motivate the hosts for the remaining rounds is the hope to catch up to tenth-placed "Torino" and secure a finish in the upper half of the table – for the first time in their history. However, "Monza" has been performing very poorly at home, scoring only 23 points in 17 home games. With six from last in the division, they've scored 21 runs and conceded 23.
Currently, "Lazio" holds the 7th position in the Serie A table, lagging behind the top five by 4 points. A place in next season’s Champions League still remains the main objective for the capital team for the rest of the season. The Biancocelesti have regained good form following the appointment of Igor Tudor as the manager during the international break in March. Under the management of the former "Marseilles" coach, the sky-blues have won 4 out of the 5 games in the championship.
After a fiasco against "Roma" with a score of 1:0, the Romans successively defeated "Salernitana" (4:1), "Genoa" (0:1), and "Verona" (1:0) this past weekend, – Mattia Dzakkanji scored the sole goal in the clash with the mastiffs. Having strengthened their defence, "Lazio" can now gain three successive victories in Serie A for the first time since last spring. It's important to note that the capital team ranks fifth in the points table for away fixtures (25 in 17 games, 23 goals scored, 22 conceded).
After two losses last season and a 1:1 draw in the September match, "Monza" will strive to achieve its first victory over the Romans in Serie A.
"Monza" cannot boast good home results in the current campaign, and the team is lacking motivation: they're not facing relegation, and it's a long shot until the European zone. Contrarily, under the guidance of Igor Tudor, the Romans came to life and continue to fight to finish in the Champions League quintet. I see no reason why the "Eagles" could drop any points this Saturday, hence my bet is on their triumph.
"Lazio" conceded just two goals in the last four games and the defence coordination has been worked out. Considering the current form of "Monza", it seems unlikely that the red-and-whites will manage to score a couple of goals this Saturday.
"Lazio" surpasses its opponent in class and will hold the initiative throughout the entire match. I bet on a victory for the Romans in corners.
Both teams earn an average of 2.5 yellow cards per game, so it makes sense to bet on over 3.5 total warnings.
I bet on an exact score of 0:2 in favour of "Lazio".
