On the 13th of February in League One, England's third-tier division, the "Kassam Stadium" will host a clash between "Oxford" and "Wigan".
In yesteryears, the team was quite impressive. However, it faced a downturn, only to make a comeback in League Two at the beginning of the 21st century. After 8 seasons, they managed to move up and are now playing another season in League One. Last season, they managed to avoid relegation by securing the 19th spot.
"Oxford" currently stands 7th in the league table. In the 27th round, "Oxford" went down to "Barnsley" (0:1). They then fell to the "Bristol Rovers" (1:3). In the subsequent match, they managed a draw with "Portsmouth" (2:2). After that, the lads drew again with "Reading" (1:1). And in the latest round, they secured yet another draw with "Blackpool" (1:1).
Due to financial troubles, the team was docked 8 points. Thus, it would be a tall order for "Wigan" to climb up the league table with such a handicap. They currently sit 14th.
In the 27th match, they narrowly beat "Reading". Afterward, they managed to pull a victory over "Wycombe" (1:0). In the following round, they suffered a defeat against "Stevenage" (2:3). After that, they managed to triumph over "Peterborough" (3:2). However, in the last match, the team lost to "Exeter City" on home ground (1:2).
The last direct confrontation between "Oxford" and "Wigan" was on the 24th of October, 2023. That meeting ended with a victory for "Latics" (2:0).
Both sides recently seem to be struggling. "Wigan" is weak on the road, and "Oxford" is faltering at home. However, I would be inclined to put faith in the home team, given their recent disappointments at home have been against top five sides in the league.
I believe both teams will prove to be productive on the pitch, therefore I would bet for a total of over 2.5 goals.
