On Wednesday, 13 March, in the related match for the 1/8 final of the Champions League, Dortmund's "Borussia" will host "PSV" on their home field. The first leg in the Netherlands ended in a 1:1 draw, hence the rematch promises to be quite intriguing.
"Borussia Dortmund": Kobel; Ryerson, Hummels, Schlotterbeck, Maatsen; Sabitzer, Can; Malen, Brandt, Adeyemi; Fullkrug.
"PSV": Benitez; Teze, Obispo, Boscagli, Dest; Schouten, Til, Junior; Bakayoko, De Jong, Lozano.
The match will take place in Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.
"Borussia" came first in their quartet last autumn, which also included "PSG", "Milan", and "Newcastle". This result was quite impressive for Dortmund, especially considering their loss in the first round at Parc Des Princes. In the first leg of the 1/8 final, the yellow-blacks managed a 1:1 draw with "PSV" in the Netherlands, although they deserved more and complained a lot about the referees. Between the start and rematch of the playoff, the hosts lost at home to "Hoffenheim" (2:3) and claimed victories over Berlin "Union" and Bremen "Werder" (0:2 and 1:2).
Dortmund is currently fourth in the Bundesliga standings and is no longer contending for the title. It's important to note that Eden Terzic's charges have only reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League once in the last six seasons. Still, the bumblebees have succeeded in the last five playoff confrontations when they avoided defeat in the first away match. The hosts haven't been performing exceptionally well at home this season, with only four victories in the last nine matches at Signal Iduna Park in all competitions.
"PSV" are having an excellent season both in the championship and in the Champions League. Before the 1:1 draw in the first leg of the Champions League 1/8 final, the Dutch team managed to get out of a rather difficult group, which also included London "Arsenal", "Lens", and the Europa League winners "Sevilla". Regarding the national championship, the white and reds are leading it with a gap of 10 points from "Feyenoord" who hold the second place. With a ratio of 80 goals scored and 13 conceded, the visitors have the best attack and defence in Eredivisie and are confidently moving towards their 25th Dutch championship title.
In the past weeks, "PSV" has trounced modest "Zwolle" (1:7), drew at home with Rotterdam's "Feyenoord" (2:2), and defeated "Go Ahead Eagles" (0:1) - the decision was a 10th minute goal by Sergino Dest. It's important to note that the Stripes couldn't claim victory in any of the previous 16 visits to Germany in all competitions, losing 13 times. "PSV" will have to make do without star forward Noa Lang (4 goals in Eredivisie), who has been plagued by injuries this season.
Before the match three weeks ago, these teams had met three times in their history, with results (4:1, 1:3, 1:1) favouring the Germans in two instances.
As was projected after the draw, this pair beckons the most intriguing match result - both teams are approximately on par. However, "Borussia" looked very good in Eindhoven, managing to hold the draw - this time, Dortmund's supporters will fill the stands at the Signal Iduna Park. "PSV", on the other hand, falls behind in both their lineup and European cup experience; as a result, we feel confident placing a bet on the hosts' victory with a 0 handicap.
"Borussia" will siege the opponents' gates from the starting minutes, and in the last five home matches, the bumblebees scored at least two goals each. My prediction is that the favourite's individual total will be over 1.5 goals.
Both teams preach an exclusively attacking style of football and won't hole themselves up on their half of the field - I set a total corner on over 9.5.
Neither side is notorious for excessive roughness on the pitch (in the first match, only 3 yellow cards were shown). I bet on a total booking of less than 4.5.
I'll bet on an exact score of 2:1 in favour of "Borussia".
