ONICO Warszawa and Belchatow will clash today in the Polish PlusLiga Volleyball Championship.
Holding the third spot in the Polish PlusLiga Volleyball Championship with a record of 20 wins and 5 losses, ONICO Warszawa has shown impressive performance in recent matches securing 3 victories out of 5. This reaffirms their high standard of play and ambitions for the season. They are currently trailing Zawiercie by a meagre two points for the second spot. The last tour proved a tough challenge for ONICO Warszawa as they lost to the league leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel by 0:3. Each set ended with a close score of 23:25. Despite leading in the score until the 20-point mark in both the first and third rounds, they conceded crucial points to the opponent. Parallel to their league performance, ONICO Warszawa also clinched an impressive victory at the international stage by winning the Challenge Cup. In the final, they defeated the Italian team Monza by 3:1 in both matches, without losing a single match throughout the playoffs. Taking a closer look at Warsaw's recent matches: the team faced a setback on 16th March against Jastrzębski Węgiel with a 0:3 defeat.
On the 10th of March, they managed to beat Zawiercie with a score of 3:1. On the 7th of March, they also pulled off a win against Slepsk Suwalki with a score of 3:1. However, they suffered a loss against Zawiercie on the 2nd of March in the Cup. At the international level, on 27th and 21st February, they had a good showing beating Monza with scores of 3:1 in both matches of the Challenge Cup. On 18th February, in the PlusLiga, ONICO Warszawa secured a solid win against Gdansk with a score of 3:0. These outcomes highlight the high level of preparation and teamwork of ONICO Warszawa, and they seem ready to face serious challenges both at the national and international level.
Currently ranked 10th in the Polish PlusLiga Volleyball Championship with a tally of 13 wins and 12 losses, Belchatow still stands a chance to clear the quarterfinals and make it into the top 8, trailing Kendzhegin-Kozle by just two points and Olstina, ranking seventh, by three points. In the last five rounds, Belchatow has demonstrated commendable form securing 3 wins, including an important victory over Gdansk, which is ranked 5th in the league. On 11th February, the team triumphed over Gdansk with a score of 3:2, showcasing their ability to combat and claim intense matches against strong opponents.
On 18th February, Belchatow beat Norvid Chestohova with a score of 3:0, asserting their dominance over the lower-ranked teams. However, on 29th February, the team suffered a defeat against Slepsk Suwalki by a 3:2 score in a tense match, proving that there are no easy opponents in the league. On 6th March, Belchatow suffered a 0:3 defeat against Zhejuvu reminding its struggle against top-notch league teams. However, they bounced back to victories on 15th March, overpowering GKS Katowice with a score of 3:1, thus sustaining their hopes for a climb in the rankings.
In the last five encounters, ONICO Warszawa has secured 3 victories. The streak started 5th February 2022, when in a friendly match, ONICO Warszawa convincingly beat Belchatow by a 3:0 score. The success was repeated on 16th September 2022 in the PlusLiga where ONICO Warszawa once again left no chance to Belchatow winning by 3:0. However, on 5th February 2022, in a PlusLiga match, Belchatow retaliated, overpowering ONICO Warszawa with a 3:1 score. Project Warsaw bounced back on 22nd January 2023 by edging out the competition in a tightly contested match with a 3:2 score. In the latest match held on 25th November 2023, Belchatow again stamped its superiority with a 3:1 victory.
Considering Belchatow's active contest for the quarterfinal playoffs in the PlusLiga, and their fair challenge to Warsaw in the recent encounters, I anticipate at least one set win from Belchatow.
