26-year-old Li, currently ranked 57th in the world, achieved his first victory at the Tokyo tournament against Hurkacz with a score of 3:6, 6:4, 7:6 (7:4). At the Asian Games in late September, Zhizhen Zhang claimed the title by defeating Alhogbani, Rifky, Nagal, Sultanov and Watanuki. During the US Open, he emerged victorious against Wolf with a 7:5, 7:5, 6:7 (5:7), 4:6, 6:3 score and Ruud 6:4, 5:7, 6:2, 0:6, 6:2 but was defeated by Hijikata 3:6, 3:6, 6:4, 3:6. He previously participated in the Winston-Salem tournament, where he overcame Ivashka with a score of 4:6, 7:6 (9:7), 6:2 but fell to Fucsovics 4:6, 2:6. In Cincinnati, he didn't manage to pass the qualifying round: while defeating Kressy 6:7 (4:7), 6:3, 7:6 (13:11), he lost to Fucsovics 3:6, 3:6. In Toronto, the player exited the tournament in the first round, losing to Kokkinakis 5:7, 4:6, while in Kitzbühel he conquered Lajović 6:3, 6:2 but subsequently lost to Thiem with a score of 6:1, 3:6, 2:6.
In July, at the Hamburg tournament, Zhizhen Zhang reached the semi-finals by triumphing over Cho, Hanfmann and Altmaier but lost to Djere in the semi-finals. At Gstaad and Wimbledon, he couldn't surpass the initial rounds, falling respectively to Medvedovic and Van de Zandschulp.
In June, Zhizhen Zhang displayed good results at the Eastbourne tournament, reaching the quarterfinals and triumphing over Soon and Kressy, but lost to Cerundolo. At the French Open, he reached the third round by defeating Lajović and Tirante but then lost to Ruud. In Madrid, he reached the quarterfinals, conquering Rodionov, Shapovalov, Norrie and Fritz but lost to Karatsev. In the season's other tournaments, Li couldn't exhibit out-of-band results and didn't claim more than two victories.
Aslan Karatsev
30-years-old Aslan, currently ranking 50th globally, claimed his first victory at the Tokyo tournament against Tiafoe with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:4). Earlier in Shanghai, the tennis player lost in the first round to Galan. In Zhuhai, he reached the semi-finals by dealing with Arnaldi, Marre, and Norrie but suffered a defeat by Nishioka. At the US Open, Karatsev beat Lehecka 6:3, 6:3, 6:3, and Carballes Baena 6:2, 4:6, 6:3, 7:6 (7:4), but lost to Skelton 4:6, 6:3, 2:6, 0:6.
However, since June, Aslan Karatsev has been faced with failures, winning only in four of his twelve matches. He didn't pass the qualifying round in the Cincinnati tournament, losing to Hösl 4:6, 4:6, faced a defeat by McDonald 3:6, 4:6 in Toronto and beat Panna 7:6 (7:3), 6:1 in Washington but lost to Tiafoe 6:7 (5:7), 6:7 (5:7).
On this season's grass courts, Karatsev managed to claim victory in just three of seven matches. At Wimbledon, he triumphed over Van Aar 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 6:2, 6:4, but lost to Rublev 7:6 (7:4), 3:6, 4:6, 5:7, in Halle he survived the qualification, beating Marterer 4:6, 6:3, 7:5 but in the following match lost to Safiullin 6:7 (4:7), 3:6, in Stuttgart he beat Moutet 7:6 (7:0), 6:7 (8:10), 7:5, but then lost to Fritz 6:7 (4:7), 3:6 and at the French Open he only reached the second round, defeating Popyrin, but losing to Tiafoe.
In early May, at the Madrid tournament, Karatsev passed two qualifying rounds against Brancaccio and Struff, and reached the semi-finals in the main draw. The rest of the season saw Aslan not showing any outstanding results, except for the championship in Pune on hard court in January, where he managed to reach the semi-finals.
