In early May, he won the Challenger in Gwangju, beating Pack, Donskoy, Hijikata, Eubanks and Purcell. In late February, he also won the Challenger in the United States, defeating Dougaz, Squire, Gray, Swaida and Mickelsen.

Prior to this, the tennis player participated in the US Open, where he claimed victory over Cecchinato with a score of 6:4, 6:2, 6:0 but lost to Paul 6:3, 6:2, 2:6, 4:6, 3:6.

Safiullin displayed good results on clay court tournaments in Rome and Madrid, reaching the third round. In Rome, he beat Sousa, Koprijan, Hirona and Korda, but was defeated by Popyrin. In Madrid, he successfully passed the qualifier, defeating Sousa and Ofner, and in the main draw, he overcame Harris and Paul but then was defeated by Zapata Miralles. In early February, Safiullin took home the win at the Challenger tournament in Koblenz, outplaying Blanco, Escobedo, Vatutin, Collignon and Pospisil.
