In his earlier tournament in Toronto, Alexander overcame Griekspoor 6:4, 7:6 (7:3), but lost to Davidovich Fokina 1:6, 2:6.
In late July, Zverev clinched his title at the Hamburg tournament on clay courts. Beating Molchan 6:0, 6:3, Marterer 6:3, 7:5, Van Assche 6:3, 6:4, Fils 6:2, 6:4, and Djerer 7:5, 6:3. He also participated in the Bastad tournament, where he reached the quarterfinals, defeating Molchan and Monteiro, but lost to Rublev. At Wimbledon, Alexander made it to the third round, defeating Brouwer and Watanuki, but subsequently lost to Berrettini.
This season, Alexander reached the semi-final at the Halle tournament, defeating Thiem, Shapovalov, and Harris, but then lost to Bublik. At the French Open, he advanced to the semi-finals, defeating Harris, Molchan, Tiafoe, Dimitrov, and Etcheverry, but then lost to Ruud. In other tournaments this season, the tennis player mostly reached the third round.
24-year-old Pavel Kotov, who is 106th in the world rankings, won his first match at the Chengdu tournament against Galan with a score of 7:5, 7:5. Prior to this, the tennis player successfully qualified for the tournament, defeating Statham 6:3, 6:4, and Yasica 6:2, 6:2, but previously lost four matches in a row. Earlier, Kotov reached the semi-finals in the Troisdorf tournament, where he defeated De Lore, Atman, and Strumbachs, but lost to Gakhov in the semi-finals. In April, at the Marrakech clay tournament, Pavel also demonstrated strong performance, reaching the semi-finals. In the course of this tournament, he defeated Martinez Portero, Bonzi, and O'Connell, but lost to Muller in the semi-finals.
The athletes have not previously played against each other.
Zverev has shown solid performance on hard courts and overall has a higher class than his opponent. I believe he will secure the victory in the upcoming match and I am betting on him.
