On Monday, 22nd April, as part of the 32nd round of the Spanish Primera, Sevilla will host Mallorca on their home field. The home side currently occupies the 13th spot in the league table, nine points clear of the relegation zone, whilst Mallorca are ranked 15th overall and six points clear of Cadiz.
Sevilla: Nyland; Navas, Bade, Ramos, Acuna; Ocampos, Sumare, Gudel, Lukebakio; Romero, En-Nesyri.
Mallorca: Rekovich; Maffeo, Gonzalez, Rayo, Nastasic, Lato; A. Sanchez, S. Costa, D. Rodriguez; Muriki, Larin
Sevilla have struggled to find a consistent form in the current season, nevertheless, the club is highly likely to secure its survival in the top-flight division. In Champions League, the team took the fourth spot in their group, falling behind Lens, PSV, and Arsenal. Simultaneously, the red-and-whites are unanticipated to finish in the top ten in their domestic league. Currently sitting in the 13th position, Sevilla have managed to gather momentum in April, with two consecutive victories over Getafe (0:1) and Las Palmas (0:2) at the weekend. The Nervionenses have claimed only 17 points of 15 home matches - the fifth-worst performance in the division, scoring 21 goals and conceding 23. Kike Flores's side finished last year in 12th place in the Primeira, their lowest finish since being relegated to Segunda in the 1999/2000 campaign.Kike Salas will be absent due to a suspension, while Argentinian left-back and World Cup champion Acuna will be back after serving his suspension. Swiss midfielder Sou might be forced to skip the match due to an injury. As for the attacking line-up, Youssef En-Nesyri (11 goals in La Liga), Belgian forward Lukebakio, and winger Lucas Ocampos (4 goals in La Liga) are expected to feature. Head coach Sanchez Flores may opt for a four-man backline, leaving Bade and Sergio Ramos to strengthen the defence; Sumare and Gudel will form the anchor of the midfield.
Copa del Rey finalists Mallorca, who suffered a penalty defeat to Athletic Bilbao earlier this month, aim to bounce back quickly from the huge disappointment. The team from Palma are currently 15th in the Spanish Primera table and put up a good fight last weekend against current leaders Real Madrid. The guests held tight against the renowned rival for more than a half, but eventually succumbed to Tchouameni's impressive shot in the second half (a 0:1 defeat). Prior to this setback, Mallorca had played two rounds without losing, defeating Granada 1:0 and drawing 0:0 against Valencia. Mallorca have managed only six victories in the league so far, with just one of them away.
Having scored just 11 goals away from home - the second-worst performance in the division after Cadiz, Mallorca face no personnel deficits and approach the journey to Andalusia at full strength. Speaking of the visitors' key attackers, it's worth mentioning Kosovo forward Muriki (5 goals, 2 assists in La Liga), who leads the top scorers' list along with fellow striker Prats (5 goals). In the match against Real Madrid, Kyle Larin was on the bench as coach Aguirre switched to a 5-4-1 formation; this time, however, the Canadian might appear in the final third. Dania Rodriguez, Samu Costa, and Antonio Sanchez will command the midfield; Manu Morlanes will enhance the game coming off the bench.
Last season, Sevilla beat Mallorca 2:0 at home, but suffered a 1:0 defeat away in December.
Sevilla lost the first leg in La Palma, but have recently found their footing. The hosts could claim their third consecutive victory for the first time this season, whereas Mallorca have been performing poorly on their travels, with only one away win since last summer. Objectively, Flores’s side surpass their opposition in terms of class and should take all three points.
